oldholden.com site,a Guy from NZ saying its a V8 LJ XU2, and 7 were Built for the Police Force, two went to NZ and 5 to Africa ???????. I would more think its one of the 5 that were made by the Adelaide Holden Dealer in Adelaide,as they Built 5-V8 LJ Torana's ,and all in Red Colour and were all Torana "S" 2-Doors, Reason they were all Torana "S" 2-Doors was due to insurance been cheaper and better than them been GTR's or XU-1's etc.

NZ V8 LJ XU2 ?

It definitely looks like a Torana S. There are no GTR guard vents/slits/gills and it has the stainless steel body side moldings which were standard fare on the S models.
Do you know if they had a GTR or S black interior?
Also I'm finding it difficult to determine if the Torana in those pics has clear or amber front indicator lenses. Just curious if these cars were 1972 or 1973 production.
Cheers

XU2308 your explanation sound quite plausible.

Hi Dave
The NZ V8 LJ is a 1973 Model, i think they started building them in 1972 to 1973 the 5 Adelaide Holden Dealer Built ones,as you bought a complete Torana "S" 2-Door 6 Cyl and the Dealer pulled the 6 Cyl and Box out and then fit up the V8 Motor and V8 M21 4 Speed,as the Dealer Built Cars would have been the price of a Torana "S" 2-Door 6 Cyl Car then a new 308 V8 and New V8 M21 4 Speed then fitted, the Adelaide Holden Dealer did the Warranty on them cars and GMH Head Office in Port Melbourne knew about it but turned a blind eye about it. The Two SMP V8 LJ's were Built in Victoria by a Holden Dealer i would say Smiths of Geelong.
