You can get vinyl dye in a spray can....remove the belts, hang on the clothes line, tape anything you dont want to be black and spray away!

Hey Grant

Extract from the LJ Torana owners manual.

Care of seat belts.

Keep the belts clean and dry. Clean with a mild soap solution and lukewarm water. Keep sharp edges and damaging objects away from belts.

Periodically, inspect the belts, buckles, and anchorage points. Damage or fraying that could lessen the effectiveness of the system should be eliminated by replacing the belt assemblies. Do not bleach or dye the belts since this can cause severe loss of strength as also will contamination of the webbing with
polishes, oils and chemicals - particularly battery acid.

The choice is yours as to what you decide to do, but I thought the above info is important to know.
Cheers
Dave.

Fast EH, where do you get the vinyl spray ? At the moment they are a nice shade of light brown and could near pass as a faded set of black ones. I'm going to see if i can get another set in black in the wanted section. Q 2) does the four door front ones fit the two door ? it's a 72 so the hole is closer to the front and the 4 door is a same month 72 as well. thanks Dave for the safety reminder, they were pretty bloody in effective and always falling off your shoulder. Actually I just remembered that i will need to replace the front ones with retractable ones won't I ?.

Get a quote from seatbelt solutions to have them rewebbed.

The new seatbelt webbing is better than the original webbing which has since been banned. If the belts are faded they probably are not much good as a safety device.

I had a friend who gave me all the information on dying seatbelts so good no could tell them from original he was told how to do it from a friend of his.
This friend had an accident and the seatbelt snapped, I doubt he thought to much about it as he died instantly

Oh and my friend went out and brought himself a new set of belts

So the secret to dying seats is this... don't

Any auto shop should have vinyl (dye) spray paint. I saw a set of belts once that had been sprayed and they looked just that, painted.
Maybe the guy had too use too much paint to cover the colour underneath but it was obvious what he had done and looked awful.
I'm sure the cops would defect a car if they saw something like that.

AFAIK The 4 dr front belts are shorter than 2 dr belts so might be ok if your're not a big build but the belt might not fit you're mother in law. LOL.
I can't imaging you would have to install retractable seat belts, the belts would only have to comply with the ADR listed on the compliance plate.

I know what you mean about the slipping seat belt, it is a nuisance but do it up a bit tighter and re adjust it regularly.

Cruiza...did this guy immerse the belts in a colour solution? I definately wouldn't recommend that.

S Pack- I'm pretty sure I got my tin of spray from Autobarn....and it looked fine....I also think he used too much...a couple of light coats...not one big heavy coat.

I'm very glad I saw this thread when I did, I was about to dye mine but I would much rather spend the extra cash - have them looking better and take no chances.

Goes to show how helpful and necessary these forums are for enthusiasts who want to restore their vehicles right.

and the other thing the paint may shed its particles.i learnt this going to a wedding and had a black mark across a white shirt.luckily it came off.
and the belts do interchange.i have hz 1 tonner belts in my red hatch.and when making up sets to sell on ebay the 4 door ones are the same.
ill stand corrected on this but i allways think if the sun has faded them its probably started the decomposition of the belt as well.i notice that the faded parts are stiffer this cant be good.
