At a recent Shannons auction a 76 SLR 5000 sold for around $25000. Now I'm not saying this is the going price as there was no reserve. But I was told that the 77 model was more desirable and costs alot more. After coming across another person who said the same thing I was wondering why?. The second bloke said it was probably because they won Bathurst in 77 (which they didn't). To my understanding (Im no expert) there was little in the range of drive train mods and only some facial upgrades with improvements in the interior. This is hardly what I could believe would make such a price difference considering they are still the same model. Now I'm not sure what the price of a 77 SLR 5000 but I was led to believe around about $100000. Are these blokes tellin me porkies or is this correct.

Some may say that an LH SLR 5000 is worth (slighty) less than an LX SLR 5000.
Is it $10000 ? I dont know if there is an exact figure.
If I was loking at a buying an LH/ LX SLR 5000 torana, I would look at either model and base my decision on the condition and originality of the car, and on its individual merit.
If I was looking to build a car as a project, I would start with an LH pre pollution body- unless I was intending on putting a LS1 etc motor in it.

Also, the A9X didn't come out until 77... So I guess in 76 the top of the range LX Sedan was the SLR 5000 (Not sure when the L34's were no longer sold)
That's all I can think of..

I would suggest whoever said this, considering your price you quoted there is getting their A9X's and SLR5000's mixed up. All SLR5000's built after September 77 were A9X's.

In the last 5 years or so I have not seen any real variation in price difference between a 76 and 77 LX5000. I think as mentioned it comes down to an individual car and its condition, colour and trim options. The LX5000 for some reason does fetch more than an LH5000. I purely put that down to them being a "prettier" car to look at with the nicer interior and paint markings.

I think thats a personal preferance thing really. The only part of the interior i think is nicer on the LX is the silver part of the dash. The seats in the LH imo are nicer done with the for example golfball only coming 3/4 the way up the seat and the rear seat a little moulded like two seperate buckets unlike the totally flat LX rear. I guess i'm bias though

I really cant believe a genuine article LH or LX 5000 sells for 25k?? I know the market has dropped but jeez ! Im sure Henrys rigs arent anywhere near that. Not to mention it doesnt leave anywhere for nice examples of SLR 4.2 and SLR 3.3s to go with price let alone the run of the mill Torries. I would seriously burn mine before i sold mine near that price.

If you were in the market & had the choice of 2 similar cars, the RTS version is my preferred choice. Its probably a couple of things, radial tuned suspension, the balck bonnet silver dash. A lot of people liked how the last of the 5000's were very loud looking and looked different from a SLR.
On the subject of appearance, I wasn't aware of any changes to the LX SL/R5000 from the Feb 76 release to the introduction of the A9X. I believe that they all had a silver dash facia, a blacked-out bonnet & the 'loud' SL/R5000 paint-outs down both sides. Did the 'last' ones look any different to the very first ones ?
