Hey all,

after getting the torry back on the road, I am a little concerned with how much fuel im going through....

Im getting about 6-7km/Litre which is slightly more economical than a 2006 Hummer!!!!

its a red 202 with stage 3 Y/T, 4 Barrell 465, alloy gears, 31/70 cam and mostly standard bottom end with a 3.55.

I have noticed the throttle shaft on the carby is a bit loose and seems to let a bit of air in at high revs which would suck a bit more juice but not THAT much.

So what I want to know....

What is you're fuel economy like?
Let me know your setup and how many K's per litre you are getting and on which fuel.

Cheers all

G

If you work out your fuel consumption in L/100km it will be easier to compare.
6-7km/L ~14-17L/100km
Depending on your driving conditions, this sounds about right for your setup(low gearing, large carb etc), you dont mention what the 202 is installed in........which also has an effect on fuel consumption.

G-train - Unfortunately i dont think any information you gain from here will be of great use to you!

To answer your question, my 202 with mild cam, webber ADM carb and extractors used to get arould 10L/100Kms.. i was pretty happy with that! BUT... ( Here's the info that i think might help ya!)..

I took my car to a mechanic with a gas analyser.. He put a probe up the tailpipe and found heaps of unburnt fuel in the mixture.. so he went to town on teh carby re-tuning it for economy as that's what i needed at the time. I lost power but he brought the unburnt fuel down to <.5% and the economy was awesome! I definitely reccomend you go to someone with the skills to play with your carby and ignition setup and get them to gas-analyse your car while its running to get everything spot on!

Good luck!

Turbo 202 with a celica 5 speed, 3.08 diff. Twin SU's.

23L/100km.

That is my average over the last 10 months or so. I write down odometer numbers every refill. Ive been meaning to get a tune for months to see if my consumption drops.

I think this is due to the fact that the setup is turbo and he seems to have a bloody heavy foot...

Cheers

Heavy foot? It must be nailed to the floor....
Litre8 in turbo 6 guise (running 800 dble pumper Holley) used to get 23.5 mpg (12l/100km) on a trip.

Yep 23l/100km. The first time i worked it out i thought its gotta be a mistake.. but nope. i checked many times, and got someone else to check to.

Also, thats not with a super heavy foot. just averagely heavy. I drive it every day almost. I was trying to work out if buying a second car (very fuel efficient, work only) if the cost of rego and insurance of the second work car would work out cheaper than the fuel i would use in the torana going to work and back.

I'd be at least following Howard's advice and see if you can organize a decent dyno tune for the LX. Then you can get some power figures to share and possibly save heaps of cash.

I personally wouldn't be driving anything larger than a mild Holden six on gas as a daily driver... something tells me you'd be blown away by the economy of some vehicles, Mike. And blown away by the lack of performance of the same vehicles hahaha

For the environment's sake, I'd always have my daily driver on LPG (so it's not as harmful) or Diesel (it's harmful, but there's ~30% less of it).

Petrol will be for my weekend cars, but that's just my view on life :P

LH 308 Daily - Uhm, I dunno what my fuel consumption is but it sure is suckin my wallet dry!

I put $50.12 (40.11 L) in on monday, that ran on out Wednesday, put $25 or $30 in Wednesday of PULP, 1/8th of a tank left when I just got home now - that'll definately read zero next time I fire it up.
PULP definately seems to last way way waaaaaaay longer than ULP for me and car runs less like s#@$t, might have to start using it again more frequently.

I did quite a bit of driving this week however (more than usual).
So I'm probably using about $50-60 on average per week which I have confirmed has 60thou overbore and ported/polished heads. 450 Holley (Probably a bit small for it's application - might have been re-jetted, not sure).
Supposedly stroked by the guy I bought it from but not sure I believe that part going by the valves on the head, stock cam.

I'd say I'm doing about 300-350k's of city/suburbia driving to a full 55L - Definately put the boot down to halfway a few times per fill-up (I'm still addicted to making it growl :D).
So that's 16-18L/100k's.
For city driving and my driving habits that's not too bad for a 308 I guess!

Get it dynoed, not expensive and you get to find out what HP it is delivering.
FYI, I got 50L-100klm last check. Mind you, it was at Noosa Historic, sideways,,smoking the bags trying to get to the top of the hill as fast as possible... Heavy foot?...NO!..bent the firewall trying to push it through it!

My last tank neted me about 35lt/100km, this was a rather spirited period however with a few blokes wanting me to take em for a drive. My average over the 10 tanks or so I've given it has been 25/100. This is in my 333, with 750DP and 4.11's.

Mind you, the car hasn't had a full tune yet in its 2000k life so thats why its all up the creek :D. Dizzy getting re-curved next week then in for full dyno tune to get it operating correctly.

Peace,
