Can anyone confirm if 15x6 rims with 3.5" backspace fit okay on LC or LJ with HQ discs and Torana stubs?

I have trial fitted a rim without a tyre and it looks awfully close to the top of the guard. I reckon there is a strong chance it is going to scrub. I am reluctant to actually fit a tyre to rim to test the clearance because there is no way I will be able to return the rim once a tyre has been fitted.

Cheers,
Brett

I have 15x6 and they fit easily, but there custom offset dragways so probably useless info for you.

Yours do look close.

I think the offset is to far out a 4.5 would be better

Yeah, I know ... if only I could find wheels that I like, that are available in that offset AND could also clear my brakes!

Alright, in response to my less than useless half drunken reply last night, i bothered to go find one of mine and measure it.

Just a touch less than 4" backspace, about 3 7/8" ish.

4 would be fine.

Not a big difference to yourse, and mine still sit a fair way out, but yeah that half inch or so seems to do the trick.

That said i havnt put rubber on them and put the car on the ground yet!!

Thanks Bomber,

Yeah I think that 4" BS will be fine too. Problem is, no one seems to make a 15x6 wheel that has 4" backspace. I could use 15x5 wheels with a spacer to clear the brakes, but this is not street legal :(

I can't believe how hard it is to find wheels that look good, fit over decent brakes and be compliant with the registration rules!

Cheers,
Brett

Yeah mate look i just got custom ones made by Dragway!!

Had the same issue with the different offset due to the brakes, then had my diff narrowed cause i was probably on some substance when talking to the diff guy, ended up being quicker and easyer just to buy rims that FIT.

Expensive at the time but they fit and they are spot on, and they look awesome haha.

Cheers.

Now you have me worried I have hq discs and stubs on my LJ, I have a set of chasers 15 x 6 +43 offset with a 205 tyre while I get it ready for rego, they rub on the inner guard at full lock I was just about to order a set of +3 offset 15 x 6 from the states , thinking i had plenty to spare. These wheel dudes need to produce a plastic template you can take home to try before you buy.

Summit sells a tyre/wheel calculator type jig thing fairly cheap...

Thanks guys. I had a 10 minute look on the Summit website last night but couldn't find it.

I just had a read of how it works here.

One of my issues is finding a 15x5 or 15x6 wheel that fits over my brakes. From what I can tell, it doesn't look as though Percy's Wheel Rite takes brake caliper clearance into account. I am pretty confident a 15x6 with 4.5" backspace, fitted with something like a 195/50R15, will fit fine. The biggest question mark for me is the 'inner rim' profile and whether or not it will foul on the brakes. From what I can see, the Wheel Rite will not help me in that aspect.

I think the only way around this is to seek this technical info from the wheel manufacturer.

Cheers,
Brett
