Hi guys just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction with a small dilema I face. I had a roadworthy inspection done a month or so ago, and it actually came up with little needing be done, howevever one thing they said needed to be fixed before passing the roadworthy was a piece of angle iron that had been welded to one of the chassis rails (a real small piece)- as the weld done by the previous owner was terrible, and they wanted to see a proper repair.
I do not have the equipment at the moment to try and attempt this job, so was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. A few panelbeating shops have told me to see an engineer to do a proper weld and make sure they can certify the work done. Problem is I dont know where i should go, ( a lot of these places are uncertain they will be able to do the job adequately, and I cant just drive my torana back and forth while its unroadworthied).
Does anyone on this forum know somewhere locally (I live in Eltham) that would be able to help me with my problem? I would be happy to pay a forum member if they are up for the job too. There is just a small piece of angle iron that has been welded terribly over one bit of the chassis rail, and it needs to be properly repaired, not just covered.
Thanks in advance, hope someone can help...

Here are some pics, I marked with the yellow arrows the piece of the angle welded to the chassis.
The last picture shows the location of the weld. (Front end of the car on the LHS)
Cheers

They did a good job
Just take it to a decent boilermaking shop, they will weld in place properly and usually smooth and paint it.
Take it to an engineer and ask him before hand though. Just to be safe, tell him what you want to do.

Was waiting to see a picture the panelbeaters you have been to are just trying to fob you off. No need for an engineers certificate thats a straight rust repair yes on a structural member but you are not modifying etc. Thats what panelbeaters do replace chassis rails etc. It won't be cheap but go to a panelbeater to get that fixed.

you could always go with the quick fix to get it through, clean the welds up with a grinder by feathering out the welds. also round off the square edge then just grab a pressure pak of stone gaurd and spray it over it get your roadworthy and then find a panle shop that will chop the rail and replace it the way it should be.
