Hi all, can anyone recommend a shop to do a roadworthy on my LH Torana I live in Blackwater so either Emerald or Rockhampton would be ok, car is a fairly standard SLR5000 however has HQ stud pattern and front brakes and what looks to be a narrowed Salsbury diff which has extra stud holes drilled in flanges to what looks to be Torana pattern also 14 x 8 wheels and flairs rest of car is standard and in very good order and modifications look to be professionally done, how much trouble will I have with this car getting a RWC and will I have to have an engineers report done if so any recomedations for that? sorry for all the questions but I am trying to get her on the road to get down to Toranafest all going well. Thanks heaps Regards Pete.

I'm sure Rocky has a few qualified vehicle inspectors.

The D.O.T can issue you with a list of the inspectors in your area.

It's going to need a mod plate for the stud pattern change.

Diff also i presume. Not sure on the stud holes. That'a a Q for the tech.

if you don't get a mod plate for it and have a bingal you can forget about insurance as they will wipe you for haveing a modified car without the stamp of aproval (mod plate)

Sounds like you need a blue plate stuk in the engine bay somewhere, shitty lookin things they are.
But thats what we gotta put up with,as already sugested, book it in and dont answer questions unless they ask, tell em nothing,
give em nothin,take em nowhere.

if you have a bingle its highly unlikely insurance company is going to pull your car apart looking for some minor fault,

Your car will be assessed before any repairs are authorised.
I know a few assessors for various companies, they're car guys and they'll pick mods from a mile away. You put alloys on a "normal" car, have a prang in the wet, they can claim you've changed from std wheels which affected the braking..........if they want to be arses about it.........

Better to be safe than sorry.

Blueplate should go into the engine bay, but if you can talk the engineer to rivet it elsewhere, so long as it is easily accessible it'll be fine.

Thanks everyone, car is booked in for an exhaust system next Thursday and then rwc following week,I too just didnt want a blue plate messing up the engine bay, will see how I go and may even put a banjo back in if its an issue, would think HQ brakes and stud pattern would have been ok considering they were fitted to the L34 but do we need a mod plate for the wider wheels and tyres?

Yeah I had the same issues with mine in WA. Sone everything but didn't even try the 10"rear rims and 8" fronts as max width is 7" rims here in WA. Please someone correct me .... I beg of u :)

You should still have front brakes mod plated as well. I had to on my LX.

When mine was mod plated, they guy handed me the plate and said rivet it somewhere visible and left me to it.

There is no mod plate code for oversized wheels so even if yo get it engineered for larger, you do not get an extra code for the wheels on your plate, it just gets mentioned on your paperwork or a separate cover letter like I have if you get that done later.

LG1 is design... so probably drum changed to discs
LG2 is modification... so maybe bigger of the same style

Guessing here... wrong side of the country for me

I do RWC and it def needs a mod plate. as far as having good lights, brakes and horn nicko is kidding himself. everything from bumnper to bumper that was fitted HAS to be fitted and work like emissions stuff, correct size tyres, theres heaps of things that SHOULD be checked, it can even fail for not having the shift pattern on the gear knob

Just a quick update, put standard hq wheels and tyres on and put through at our local service centre and passed ok only issue was the speedo needle was a tad bouncy below 30kph and the indicators were not self centering but have sorted that out, insured with shannons and advised of mods so all looks good, thanks for all the input, will put some pics up once I master how to go about it. Regards Pete.

I dont see how the speedo would be an issue, legally a car of that age does not even need a speedo....

Ive found this to be quite the opposite. I deal with many assessors and insurance companies everyday and the things that get overlooked are ridiculous. Declining a claim based on mechanical defect is far too much paperwork for them to fill out so it rarely happens. I repair badly damaged cars with bald tyres daily.

MOstly they don't want to be arses about it :P

They'll likely tighten up to make all the flood money back soon.
