i believe the rules are something like you cannot use a motor made before the vehicles build date, and if u use a engine out of a vehicle that had all the polution gear i.e. 77 onwards (for example) it must retain the emissions components that the engine came with

The above is my belief too. I will look in the book of words and try to confirm. I will be fitting a VK 3.3 to a LJ sooner or later. I did fit a 2.6 Sigma eng. to an early Galant when I was in business and had to hook up everthing that the Sigma had as far as pollution gear. Then get a letter head from the local dealership workshop to confirm that all was well. Never a mention of brake upgrade, but the owner had read up and got me to fit a Lancer booster/and/or/(can't remember) master which gave it terrific brakes. From memory all we did was fit a charcoal canister and run a line from the fuel filler neck to the canister and fit a vac hose to the carb. and a non vented cap to the tank. It was auto and chirped going into 2nd all bog stock. That will be about the same as fitting the 3.3 to the LJ.
What airpump belt officer? It must have fallen off Your Honour.

forgive me if im wrong but isnt a vk 3.3 just a black 202. if so ive heard (but never had or driven) that they are a terrible motor thirsty as an alco in the middle of a desert.
but they cant be that diffrent from a blue/red can they?

I think it varies from state to state, but as far as I know in Victoria you do not need to fit the pollution gear if the car is pre-pollution, it would be worth checking with an engineer and the person doing the roadworthy certificate though.

Hi Guys.

Only if the carby needs an overhaul. The Varajets have an issue with the float absorbing fuel & sinking, when they get old. This results in a high float level & excessive fuel consumption.
Overhaul the carby & fit a new float & they run fine. The Varajet is a very underated carby.

I didn't think fuel injection appeared till the VN. Happy to be proven wrong on that though. Who needs fuel injection anyways.
I do believe you need to comply with the later requirements, i.e. VK motor, then you need VK pollution stuff. My car only has a HZ intake manifold, and engineer required post-ADR27A cannisters just for that reason, two for good measure because it also has a drop tank.

Hi Guys.
Black 3.3 6s come in 2 varieties, EST (Carby) & EFI. The EFI version was standard on the Calais & optional on the others.
Because the carby version is far more commonplace than the EFI & I didn't see the term EFI mentioned, I naturally assumed rodomo was referring to the carby motor.
The same fuel usage issue also applies to the EFI motor though. In a good state of tune, with the EGR working & clean injectors the Black 3.3 EFI motor is not that thirsty either. Having said that, later engines with oxygen sensors do get better economy.

Had a EFI 3.3 Blackie, and it went harder than the carby 3.3 Blackie and was heaps better on fuel too.
