Basically I want to use 16" chasers, Im planing on using VS style Commodore Hubs and would like to know if the VE's will fit. Dont they have different size studs?

Pretty sure VE is a totally different backspace to earlyer commy's.

If your willing to cut/reweld then shouldnt be an issue.

Cheers.

Early Commodores are 12mm studs
VE are 14

Centre hole size is different
SO too is offset

So all the above are correct

Different size centre bore

Thats right, i remember someone saying the centre needs to be machined out a little.
May be easier to use VE style hubs but dont know if they are available as the VS ones are for HQ style stubs

Oh bugga, not so simple
Hey Datto, would you know if there are VE style hubs for the HQ stub axle as there are VS style hubs for the HQ stub??
Thanks

I guess redrilling the VS hubs and using VE studs would be one way then machining the rim centres, but hey they are just steel rims at the end

Maybe machine the hub centre down to suit the VE wheels centre holes and use a flanged sleeve (so the wheel will hold it in) to 'thicken' the hub if you use VZ or earlier wheels on?

Legalities? Dunno?

Why would someone make a VE style hub to suit a HQ ?

Thats crazy talk

How about you convert to Ford stud pattern and use Terrotry wheels... hahahahaha

But yes you could machine the hub to suit the later wheels
Use big studs too if your worried about it
I think offset is your biggest problem
As with any style of Commy wheels on a RWD early Holden
Commy use stupid FWD offsets from day 1

Datto, i figured there may be VE hubs for HQ stubs like the VS hubs for HQ stubs. But you may be making a set right?? :stirpot:

I have the 16x7 ve chasers on my UC. As above I had the centers cut n rewelded and the hub machined out 3mm. Cost me 50bucks a rim, keeps a subtle look and let's me run 245s on the back. I am using vn diff standard stubs with hq rotors on front. Have been on the car for 25000km no issues

So you welded in HQ cetres into the VE rim? After removing the VE center?
Why did you machine the hub?

Because they are a steel rim I was advised by the engineering mob that I will b able to get away with the commy to hq as it's on The front and no power transferred and only a thin section like 3-mm that slides over. Sorry meant the hole on the rim was machined out 3mm to go over becausethe ve is 3mm smaller. Have a look at my build it's one or 2 pages in on the members rides

I will check out your build, but what did you do about the studs, the VE stud holes are 14mm

Yeah the wheel nuts I have have got a nice deep chamfer which protrude into the hole by about 2-3mm so they work well. Have done plenty of events and about 30 qtr mile passes on these

What nuts did you use? Custom nuts or Commy?

the chasser wheels on the vy/vz crewman and one tonners are 16", you wouldnt have to worry about machining the center out and stud size, had one as a spare for my vn because i had 330mm brakes on it.

You just saved me from splitting my balls

My question should have been, are there any 16" chaser Commy wheels haha
I guess sometimes it takes a process to get all the info.
But this is great at least we all learn something
Thanks Guys
