hi guys, my rebuild on my hatchback is nearly complete and should be at mallala this saturday,you can see it all over on aussie v8 http://www.aussiev8....ollover-10.html
ill be taking it to a mates shop to wheel align and was looking for some surgestions for a baseline setting. the car is used for supersprints at mallala, hill climbs and will do tarmac rally, i know the optimum setting will vary for hillclimb, rally and sprints but im more serious about hillclimb and 3 of the 4 track i go to are sections of public road closed for the event so i think a tarmac type setting would be good.
the basics are;
uc front end.
harrop arms
hz stubs
upper arms lowered 25mm
820 pound springs
red konis valved to suit springs
solid mounted crossmember
23mm rear mount bar
whiteline uri bushes
it runs 16'' x 8 '' simmons on the front with a kumho v700a 225 45 16 soft compound r spec tyre and weight 1265 kg with 1/2 tank of fuel and me in it ready to run.
i was thinking around 2.5 neg camber, 3 positive castor and 1mm toe out as a starting point, does that sound lioke a good starting point.
looking forward to hearing youre ideas especially the race/ tarmac rally guys.

One person who used to race a Group N LJ used to use -3 camber, +5 castor and about 1mm toe out. Your initial setup figures may be OK, depending on the track layout and what type of diff centre you run (spool, locker, LSD etc.). Trial and error ( and a prtable wheel alignment machine) are your friends.

Sounds like a good base line to start from to me, like most things it tends to be a suck it and see, there is so much one can do when you really put your mind to it. When you are starting out even little things like tyre pressure can make a huge difference. I had a similar setup in my road car spec wise but a little less aggressive in the setting that said I ran 1 degree camber in the rear. I think there is no such thing as ideal or prefect but rather a good starting point from which to develop the car to suit your tastes and driving style. it is possible to make some generalizations such as Torana's rely on tire grip rather then suspension movement and are generally setup very stiff compared to most other cars

Be sure to post to pictures we love looking at other peoples car build threads especially hatchbacks

thanks guy, it runs a full spoll with 265 r spec medium compound k700a tyre out back and i have built about 1/2 a degree neg camber into the housing.i built it up before as a track /hillclimb car and had it well sorted before i crashed it but the front wheel alignment was done a long time ago before i was smart enough to keep records of my settings ect.
