If it was a LH or LX I'd say its not supposed to have flaps... its supposed to have balls
But since its a UC. ......

MY VB had them.. 1978... so UC maybe

But really... he's being pedantic and its not law that you need mudflaps
Modern cars don't have them ... they are an option on some.. .but not all
Surely they can't enforce it

I took it over at all track in bunbury, it's like he Was just looking for things to make up a list, also said the 4wd systems lokka is illegal, idle too rough, shift kit too hard. I was under the impression the lokkas were legal because they still retain the ability to differentiate

AFAIK the uc torana didnt come standard with mudflaps. Just looking here in the uc owners manual on p50 it shows how to remove the wheel trim, no mud flap in sight, so Id be putting that in front of the inspector.

However, I dont think you can tell from the compliance plate whether it was an sle sunbird or not, the engine, diff and tranny code can give it away as a sunbird, but sle...dont think so, unless they really know their stuff and notice that the rear door courtesy lamp switches are there, this would also apply to the torana uc sl deluxe model.
the sle sunbird basically had all the options on it(including flaps), in which case the inspector may have a case.

Im guessing yours was a sunbird, and have done the v6 transplant?

That being said, one of our uc sl's had mudflaps and no other extras, whether they fit them to all later on in the model run, dont know.

Here is a pic from a ebay add of what looks like an sle sunbird on a gregory's manual:http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=270822481091, no flaps

none here either:http://www.integracar.com.au/ccp0-prodshow/Holden-Torana-UC-6-cyl-1978-1979-Gregory16.html

Trim code maybe? SL/E trim was unique to SL/E I believe.

Sounds like a load of shit to me. even if they were standard fitment, doesn't mean they are an ADR or roadworthy requirement.

I would either challenge them to prove in what way it is unroadworthy and how it doesn't meet ADR, or if they want to be real wankers, just fit a set, then take them straight off again.

If you don't want to have holes to get it past the dickheaads, just glue them on or double sided tape them :-)

Mate, you must have rubbed him up the wrong way, they are definately an optional extra. As were the external sunvisor, the side windshields, the boot lid luggage rack, the door handle scuff plates, the driving lights, the wire mesh headlight covers, the rear window louvre, the full instrument dash, the rear window demister, air conditioning, sports steering wheel, electric aerial, lsd, 4 wheel discs, seat covers, floor mats, even a turbo charger and a million other dealer and after market extras they tried to sell you in the good old days. Dont waste another second with this w@nker find someone else !!

Many many LX and UC had mud flaps. they became mandatory at some stage hence why most Rego authorities expect them to be there.
And new cars do have them, just not the flexible rubber kind.........

The Lokka is definitely illegal if you can switch it from the cabin - but I have a feeling they are illegal for road use anyway, switchable or not.
Idle rough? Hard shift? Idiot.

The engine, gearbox, diff and brakes should all be signed off by an engineer.

The Lokka is legal as it is not permanently locked, e-lockers and air lockers are also legal in WA under the NCOP.

A proprietary part-time differential locking device may be utilised, provided that the driver can control it from the normal seating position

I can't control it, it's an automatic locker that only locks under load I.e throttle otherwise it retains full differential between wheels, just ticks around corners, the car is registered in my uncles name so I'm going to do the rear main, try pull the zorst up a bit, engineer tank n take it back over

I have heard this aswell, il c wat my uncle says, the car has been over Warwick twice n passed first go, this was for licensing and engine conversion tho not defect, I'm thinking of putting a high stall in while the box is off n I'm doing the rear main, will I get any hassles about a 2800 stall?

they are sposed to swap them (inspectors) around in the metro area....so in theory you shouldn't get the same one
but bumbry may still be a private testing station....who may have been cracked down on....or just wants yours $$$$ for sfa work
