The olive is in the master cylinder outlet for the rear brakes... the big thread one
This is where the residual valve hides... looks like a ducks bull... made of rubber... attched to a spring... discard both.

Leave the valve alone till the cars driven and if theres a rear wheel locking issue where the rears are coming on before the fronts... then its prop valve time

I didnt upgrade the write up but I eventually flicked the prop valve in the bay completely and fitted an adjustable Tilton bias twidler...about $70 off memory...bit of trial and testing to get it right but once it was set I left it.

After I fitted the Commodore booster, you can see the Tilton bias adjuster just below the Falcon master cylinder.

Hey again peoples..
I have finally got the commodore 3.08 centre into the skyline housing, whilst the axles were getting drilled for torana stud pattern I got them to fit new wheel bearings.

I went to fit the axles last night, however the longer axle doesn't go all the way into the centre.. it feels like the splines are lining up ok, however when the axle is pushed all the way home, there is still around 40mm left to go in. The bearing is definately pushed all the way down to the shoulder. Could the axle perhaps be crashing against something inside the centre?

Many thanks :)

Are the axles the same length left to right?

Yeah I thought you wanted confirmation but maybe you were just being polite...

Out of interest what was the issue with the bearing? My first (failed) attempt at getting one of these built was using a supposed professional diff builder who fed me a line about the bearing setup on the R31 diff being oddball and expensive (among other things), curious to know if there is any truth to it.

Hehe, well I accidentally tapped the wrong bearing cap into the housing.. therefore the bearing wasn't able to seat properly! Whoops. And many thanks again 76lxhatch for all the help :) (and to the others that helped out!!). The diff is now all bolted up and in the car :)

Sorry to dig up an old thread guys but some good info in here at the least!
Does anyone know how much power these diffs can handle? My next project is going to be an LH/LX with a 2JZGTE engine (manual), they can easily be made to put out 300RWKW.. but can one of these R31 diffs handle that?
The other reason I am looking into an R31 diff is the weight, I remember somewhere that they are much lighter than a 9" (but is this an indicator of their strength...?) Cheers!

on second thoughts and much reading... I'll keep my eye out for a 9" setup.. seems as though the BW won't like 300rwkw..

Don't say that too loud
Theres a bunch of Rajabs that run 1000+ HP VL Turbos thru good old BW diffs that might disagree
