Giday

Just wondering how the stock LC SL brakes (front discs, rear drums), with soft compound pads (cheapies) will last on a race track. A lap is around 2 minutes long and I am planning on doing about 3 laps at full pace.

Will they last this time period or will they burn out?

Is it worth changing to a harder pad?

Cheers

I rang BNT and they only offer the cheapies and a harder form. They said the slightly harder ones would probably suit sprint type application but would like a second oppinion?

I think they would be lucky to last the warmup lap
Anything you buy off the shelf from an autoparts store will be garbage for track use
You need a brake specialist to supply something good

Ferodo DS2500 is what I use in my LJ calipers on the racecar
Good for at least 5 good hard laps with no fade
I haven't done more than 5 in a row yet but I think they would outlast the tyres

LC/J caliper there arelosts of nicer compounda around that are still streetable and can be taken to the track
Its a very common shape pad

Whats your budget.... I can suggest and maybe even supply something nice and tasty.

I have taken my LJ out at Winton Fun Days, and i know its not full on racing but I didn't have any major brake fad. I'm running XU-1 Slotted rotars, with Ferrodo pads (dattoman will be able to tell you which one, i forget i think XLs) and standard rear brakes.

I only did maybe 3 or 4 laps at a time.

I can say teh ferodos are a nice pad and seem to last the distance, no real sqeek eithre. I also know thet steve ^ does nto push teh car too hard so the brakes do nto get a real work out. I ran a VR SS around last time and I know I push it. The pads I ran started to get a little soft after 6 laps, so I just eased off a little and still completed 15 laps before the session was up. I personally would not go out to a track with cheap pads. by something more suited. Remember there is a direct corrilation to the brain and the accelerator. If you start to get fade donot push teh car (or get off teh track totally) it is not worth the risk...

Thanks for the offer but I just found a metal pair with the brand name "Heavy Duty" which only cost me $40

I'll see how they run and if I think they are average i'll give ya a PM.

You haven't been there that last few times i have been there.

I gave it a real hard time last time, which was back at the start of the year in 35 degree heat. I can assure you I did give the brakes a work out.

i use slotted lx discs on my lc, with lucas pads, racing all day saturday and sunday at muscle car shootout, didnt have brake fade once. was doing real well cause i could outbrake the bigger cars in the corners.
