What system do u have? X pipe or h pipe? How big? How loud/quiet do u want it? Cats probably won't do much...

WOW, if it's too loud at idle what's it like when your cruising or accelerating?

Cheers

hookers are great....in moderation :)
ooops you ment the exhaust lol
which is the one you can "add" canisters too quieten it down hookers or supertrapps?
i'd try a set of them on the back
you can add some standard style ones before the diff if it's still to loud

Go with the Hooker 'Aerochamber'..... a bloody good muffler that lasts for at least ten years without changing its note. I have Supertrapps on my current car and you get the best of both with them..... straight through sound and performance without the diffusers or smooth and quiet with them fitted. Other advantage of Supertrapps is they can be repacked!

Why do you have cats on a 383?

I agree....there is a large assortment of mufflers out there to suit alot of situations, and finding something to quiet it down should not be a drama. A larger case is going to quieten it too, but room gets to be an issue. Magnaflow and some Borla are not too bad even in the somewhat smaller sizes. Even a simple 3 chamber flowmaster is not tooooo bad.

I run Spintech mufflers with a X pipe (in a more mild engine than your though I'd say) but at idle and lower rpms it sounds very mild. , nearly tame.

Have a mate with magnaflows on a big block convertable (Dodge Challenger R/T) and they are pretty mellow as well.

I have just put Hooker aerochambers on my 355, they sound bloody sweet as!

I gotta say, they don't quiet it down a heap (Still illegal). But if you have been cruising around without mufflers at all, then yeah, you will notice a HUGE difference!

If you are after performance, wouldnt Supertrapps be better? They are adjustable so you can decide on the noise and performance
cheers

(shan620 your spot on)

put a 138 red motor in it that 'll quieten it down and perhaps give you the idle your looking for...should purr like a kitten..
seriously mate you go to trouble to have such big cubes and perfomance then want to strangle it..sometimes i wonder if the right people own and build high perfomance cars..just my thoughts and opinion..

The LJ with a pair of cats and a pretty much straight through twin 2.5 inch system was 103db when tested. A pair of resonators (the longest we could fit) brought it down to 95 db. Cheap and effective. No change in power as far as I can feel.

I use 2 redbacks and 2 hot dogs, might be just over 97 dB but not by much plus I still have a great note.

is it injected a nice set of mufflers would quiet it down heaps and if once you get them fitted its till to loud try some resonators or make up a section flanged with some "street" mufflers if your worried about getting pinged then have a nother set of mufflers flanged for when you want to give it the boot
