I don't think its really been done because its a lot harder than you might think.

Good luck with it though.

I once had the same dream, until I realised it would have been easier to get a 6 cylinder to start with.

You would at least have to graft an entire front end onto the car. It would probably work out a lot cheaper just to buy a 6 cylinder shell and go from there.

Unless you planned on cutting the firewall and moving the engine back. There was actually a torana at "Toranafest" that had done exactly that.

cheers
Glenn

By front end, I mean inner and outer guards, the radiator support panel, the whole lot. I am not sure of how the front suspension compares to the 6 cylinder version. I would guess that the brakes would be larger as well but you would have to check on that.

The other alternative might be to get a nice little four banger and graft it in there if you are after a little more performance. Perhaps a 4AGE corolla twin cam or the like

cheers
glenn

Yes I was thinking the gards and all and using a 6 cylinder cross member, I may have a donor sedan soon, time and effort is no problem.I have no completion date lol. Cheers daryl

Would be easier to turn the donor sedan into a 2 door

Theres a thread here on doig exactly that

Try the panel and paint or fabrication section

They are the same shape and roofline... so its moving B pillars and grafting bits on
But "looks easy"

:)

The chassis rails and rear suspension mounting points are different also.

Firewall needs unpicking and everything from there foward replacing. Front X members are not interchangeable. nothing is the same. And as said the rear suspension is totally different as well.

Cheers.

Is it possible tounpick the chassis rail ,or some how replace it ,I have an exploded diagram of how obody goes together but it doesn't show how the chassis attaches to the subframe

Dunno, never tried.

for the couple of hundred hours probably required i'd personally prefer to just buy a six cylinder one or graft a hot four into it.

Cheers.

I've slept on the idea, starting to think you guys are right adout converting the 4door to a 2 door and not worrying aBout the 4cylinder,ill use all the pannels and doors off the 2door(4cylinder)that's if I'm lucky enough to Buy the 4 door I'm looking at, cheers daryl

Just need to talk to an engineer

I used to laugh at people suggesting what I am about to, but then I owned a SSS Pulsar and came to an understanding.

Stick a SR20 in the Four cylinder LC and it will go HARD. :3gears:

Don't get wrong having a Holden 6 in a Torana is the best way, but those SR20s make heaps of power and return quite good economy.

Double take 2;

I have got the following;

2 x rear quaters - not bad condition - from Lj
1 turret roof off 2 door
1 rear parcel shelf and rear beaver

bought these off a guy that was turning the car into a drag car, can still be used to go onto a 4 door conversion.

I also have a Jl TA 4 cylinder - two door, that i am chopping up for the rear quaters for my car. the rails and rear suspension are all different and stuff. I do know someone who has replaced the rails.

whats left will be the some of the side internal panels and supports for the two door conversion as the four doors are different.

let me know if you need anything.

I'd just buy a 2 door in reasonable condition and do the rust repairs and then paint, it a big job and expensive to do that type of conversion to a standard two door. it's even getting nearly not worth it for the gtr im doing.

have a long think about this one. save your money is my advice unless that car is worth 40 K plus in the end.

three cents

i too was gona do this conversion. bought a lc 2 door 4 cylinder that came with a 6 cylinder front end. started unpicking all the firewall spot welds and then realised the chassis rails are different widths. so just ended up buying a lj 6 cylinder 4 door. serious amount of work involved also engineering reports and stuff. would work out cheaper just to wait for a rusty 6 cylinder 2 door i think.
cheers ant
