Looks like a pretty average wall to me.

I think it's great the way it didn't completely collapse. I'm outta there in a couple of weeks, so I just don't care any more.

We have an 06 VE Calais V6 with 165ks on it.

A couple days ago the Check Engine warning comes on so we booked it in at the local stealership for today.

Service advisor rings me and tells me it needs a Variable Intake Kit to shut off the check engine light, $260 to supply and fit.

I asked is that covered by warranty, No he says.

I asked is it a consumable item, No he says.

I asked will it stop the car from running, No he says.

I asked if you reset the fault codes without fitting the Kit will the check engine light come back on, Yes he says.

So why do I need this kit, and why isnt it a recall item if they cant stop the check engine warning coming on without it? Or is there something I'm missing here?

James

ps The computer software would be upgraded to suit the new kit as well for the $260.

You can just cancel the engine check light if they wish to.

Forgot about the thick A pillar, yeah that is a problem. We used to drive VE's and G6E's quite regularly down Kangaroo Valley, but we don't go that way anymore and have a work king cab 4WD we have to use now!!! Although occaisionally we can get a hire car. Last time it was a Mercedes E200 or something. That was nice, talk about sure footed.

Visability is an issue that is for sure but what no one has mentioned is the issue with the 5 speed auto. The 4speed (4l60e) is tried and trusted , strong enough, and better to service/ repair . The 5speed auto is weak (by holdens own admittion not able cope with added weight of towing) and expensive and difficult to repair. A mate of mine has done 30 000 kms and the trans is playing up and he has never towed but it is a wagon and he fills it up , holden said he is overloaded. Another mate of mine owns an Automatic transmition shop and said for me to steer clear of the 5 spd , so i brought a VE Commodore 4spd Omega .
