I have my 9" diff center out at the moment and im looking into changing my mini spool for a ratchet style locker. The style that fits inside the standard open carrier.

Anyone here using a certain brand that they are happy with and can recommend? There are just so many brand names..

Cheers

I have a Richmond Lock Right in a centre that gets drag raced often and have had no trouble. The car normally has a true Detroit Locker in it but was changed with a ratio change for the 1/8 mile racing recently. To drive the both of them the car feels and sounds pretty much the same. I'd have to say that the Detroit is quieter than the Lock Right, but it has been in the car for 20 years and is nice and polished up, was a bit roudy when new. For interest sake the car is over 3300lbs makes 450 Hp and was running 7.0 @ over 98mph on the 1/8 with a set of 5.83 gears and the Lock Right never complained.

I have a lokka lock right in the front of a Nissan patrol 4.8L petrol (value for money). Also a friend with lokka lock right in the front and back of a 6L V8 land cruiser, works well.

I have also just done a LSD 9 inch and it cost me more than the lokka lock right and its still only LSD. If I had my time over again I would just put the lokka in.

I think you are on the right track and most are very strong (or all are stronger than a 9 inch standard LSD hat). For $499 in a single spinner and go drag racing or a Sunday drive I dont think you can get any better drivability or value for money.

I'm also using the lokka. A bit noisy in tight corners but works really well

cheers for the comments, I think its the way to go, replacing the whole carrier unit could get too expensive.

Looking at the powertrax no-slip also, boasts a smooth quiet operation. But about $200 more expensive. $590 landed

I might try it out, i assume its suitable for 450hp on street tires.

Cheers,

The lokka also claims a smooth quiet operation, I think that means when it actually locks in, which u can hardly hear. Ive heard of ppl cutting a rung out of the springs to quieten it a bit but that will void your warranty

Hard choices haha, im missing the side gears on my diff due to the spool install i think, i know the powertrax lock right needs them still, but the no slip doesn't. which was leaning me one way. not sure if the lokka needs them.

Lokka just needs the bare carrier. Well for te bw78 it does I'd assume it's the sane for 9 inch

There are two types of lokkas, they state that one is quieter than the other.

The Richmond Lock Right does require you to reuse the side gears.

i use to use a detroit locker, when cruising around if you drove through a bunch of S bends it had a tendancy to bang, if you wernt aware of it, id give you a wake up.
also if you cruise into a corner, or come in under brakes then jump on the throttle hard mid corner you`l prob end up looking in a differnet direction.
the diff would look and spin the car.
