I bought myself a rooted hq ute that had a 308 and aussie four speed it in. the motor is painted blue so by going by that the motors not orginal but heres the number off the block. VT41709.

that motor also has a holley on it been told that its a 650 vac sec but dont know. it has three lots of numbers on it (3572387 3343820 2892622) does that mean anything to anyone?

also the motor i took out of the lx was told last time i asked that it was possibly a replacemnt item but thought i might as well again. NL9873.

I may be corrected but from memory VT = Commodore 5.0 litre. NL sounds like a replacement 202 for LJ/HQ, that is a low number on a six though?

VT definately Commodore 5L motor, but this does not mean blue motor. The only real way is to look at the casting letters/numbers as this will tell you when teh block got cast. also look at teh inlet manifold and see whether the bolts to teh heads are straight or the middle one if offset. this will give a better clue of what the heads are. (ie VB commodore or VC onwards)

Cheers

PS: NL does not seem right but I cannot picture the v8 blocks.

The numbers you posted for the carby might be Holley US patent numbers. The number that will give you an idea of what it is will be on the air horn - take the air filter off (if it is fitted) and the numbers are on the flat bit in front of the choke butterfly. There will be 2 sets of numbers - the top being the model number and the bottom the date code.
Vacuum secondary will have a diaphram connected to the rear secondary valves.
