I was wondering how strong is a 28 spline 10 bolt salisbury diff in comparison to a 9 inch, BW, Hilux, or Volvo and are they all 28 spline.
Thanks Greg

I have a 10 bolt Sailisbury fitted to my torry. I got my diff mate to convert it to a 4 pinion LSD set up and his exact words were that is would be as strong as a standard LSD 9" . Yes they are 28 splne. 2 years later no problems at all and I drive my hatch pretty hard.

Thanks for the reply, I am going to update the diff in my FJ holden and I have two genuine A9X unused salisbury axles and was toying with the idea of using these axles in a narrowed diff or alternatively selling the axles and using a 9inch ,BW or hilux as at this point I have no special preference either way
Cheers Greg

I don't think you are able to buy new gearsets to suit the Salisbury anymore. I would use one of the other three diffs you mentioned.

Plus the axles will fit the later diffs, but I would sell them to someone who needs them for an original A9X, would pull a few bucks I would think?

Yes you a probably correct, to me they are just axles but to a genuine A9X owner they would be good to have as spares. They are 28 spline and have DH and the number
92001717 cast/forged into the spigot end. I purchased them new many years ago and stored them under my house and basically forgot about them

there 10 bolts too mate, chevs had the 12 bolt, i personally would go for the 9 inch, then b/w just because there are alot more parts available ie : ratios, limited slips, mini spools, full spools. Then the 10 bolt salisbury, but as someone mentioned earlier, gears no longer available new. All 3 are 28 spline, hi-lux are 30 spline. Not sure on the volvo.

If I decide to sell the axles, what do you reckon would be a fair price, they have never been in a car

As they cannot be seen once fitted, they are only work as much as a new billet set from a custom manufacturer such as STRANGE etc. I have not purchase any billet axles so can not give a price. By the way, remanufactured (shortened) axle prices does not apply and not a way I would personally go. Mind you, that is still a nice pile of coin but not like the actual astronomical car prices.
