I don't much about this topic so bare with me lol full/mini spools, will they fit a standard banjo housing? From what I've red they seem to be the same as a permanently lock diff yer...... people talking about they put to much stress on your axels, they wouldnt do any more damage than a welded center would they....? The reason I ask that is I had a welded up banjo in my 6cyl torri and the axels are still sweet.
The mini spool is cheaper, the full spool is more dollars but alot more heavy duty?

The mini spool will (apparently) only fit an LSD hemisphere. The full spool will be stronger, but then the weak points become the housing and axles. A mini or full spool will put the same load on the axles as a welded diff. All of the above options are not legal for road use.

Use the right foot with care. Unless you can gat a second hand diff that's already converted, nothing is going to be cheap if you want it done properly.

This is a diff a mate has sitting in his shed, his not sure what its out of vn to vr commy and it just a open standard spool with disc brakes. Anyone had much luck shorting them down to suit the torana.....? Thinking of maybe spool it and bilit axels......?

This is full spool and mini spool expained.

I purchased my car with a mini-spool, which is still fitted. I tend to agree with the comments in the below link, that it is not really suited to a daily driver, or for a car that is mainly driven on the street.

The VN diff is wider than an HQ diff. Use the short axle in the long side and gat a shorter one made for the short side. Still won't be cheap...

Mmm I see, I'm only running a hot 6........ 200-250hp, I wouldn't of thought there would be enough to do major damage to the housing, even with a full spool like I've been thinking about its only running 225's on the back so it wont have a huge amount of stress and worst case I have to replace an axel.........

Right what I've come up with is a borg warner housing with the disc brakes from a commodore shorten down to fit the torri, make up a jig and change all the bracks over......a set of bilit axels made up to suit which will cost me under 1k, than either a full spool or lsd....... pros, cons and sugestions?

Billet axles are the only way to go. It should be illegal to respline.

A 28 spline B/W diff with billet axles would be ideal if you have the spare cash. And if you must lock the diff, use a full spool.

Yer this "spare cash" u talk about is the problem...... but all the way through building this car I've always said there's no point f....ing around, spend the money now and be done with it, why start now I guess aye lol

And everything after the vl was 28 spline yer? Like all your vn's up to vs's.......?

The VL turbo and everything from VN - VS is 28 spline.

And I agree, doing it right the first time is normally the cheapest option.
