G'day guys, I was just looking at the Trimatic attached to the 253V8 I have here and noticed these splits/cracks in the Bellhousing, they look like maybe a ring gear or converter has let go and hit them from the inside or something has got caught and spun up and hit it hard like a bolt or something, Should i be worried about them, they don't appear to be cracking any further along like to bolt bosses or anything, one is on the driver's side the other on the passenger side. Here's a few pics

They look like the dowels havent been lined up and seated before the bolts were tightened. This happened to my bellhousing once and was a constant source of leaks, dont ask me how (we thought it was the pump bolts).
Its quite easy to get an old trimatic and pinch the bellhousing off and get a gearbox place to swap them over. Might even be worth getting both faces machined too to eliminate possible seeping.

Clean the bellhouging thoroughly. I know from experience that cracks like that can actually be just casting imperfections, adn thus you start to worry over nothing. If it is cracked the tigging them up would be an option.. I would investigate and if they are cracked then look into fixing it asap. The bellhouing is an integral part of the gearbox (supports the front and has to coup with all teh torque) and houses the oil pump etc for teh box. if this missaligns for whatever reason you can destroy the pump and teh front oil seal, from there the torque convertor can get bent etc depending on how it fails... So you look into it and get if fixed if cracked.

Unbolt cracked one, bolt another housing on. Easy as, a few bolts and no welding. They give blown trimatics away.
