Hello all, my LH is at the painters and I am getting parts ready to put back on the car. Does anyone know of a good way to clean the vin tags without causing too much damage? I am a bit wary of hitting them with a wire wheel, I tried an alloy cleaner without much success. I was hoping there may be a trick to this. Any help is appreciated, I will most likely have more questions over the next few weeks as this is my first build.
Thanks

I just paint stripped mine, using a liquid paint stripper (they had been painted black...) and just buffed them with a buffing wheel and a couple of compounds (medium and then fine) came out really nice looking to me at least..

Think you can see abit in this picture how they came out...

Likewise with me.. I paint stripped mine, and gave them a very light touch up with the wire wheel..

ADR and VIN tag are meant to be naked and clean as per above. BODY plate is painted on Dandnong BAP vehicles which most LH's are.

My LH body plate is black.

Which is right for a Dandenong LH.

I like "autosol" metal liquid polish.

My plates came up excellent. First I used paint stripper. 5 times on and off to remove all the paint. Then I used Autosol to bring them up to a reasonable shine then finally purple polish for the almost chrome effect they have now.
Cheers

I paint stripped mine also, then used my buffing wheel to bring them up to a mirror shine.

Avoid using a wire wheel, especially on a grinder as the tags are only thin alloy and you will destroy them... one of those small ones on a slow drill might be ok. But paint stripper works more then good enough and doesn't make any scratches

My LH body plate is black.

That's because all LH engine bays were black. LX were body colour, so the vin tag was as well.
