I occasionally watch the V8's on TV and must admit i don't enjoy them nearly as much as back in the good old Group C / A days. I've also stumbled across the Nascars recently but hadn't watched them much and had written them off as boring and just driving around in circles but lately have been paying attention and have started to enjoy some of the racing and really appreciating what they do.

And what are all the P's for?

PUSHING: This is the latest technique the drivers have been using to try to win races. Basically two cars "hook up" and the rear car pushes the car in front. As the rear car has no wind resistance it can provide more power so as a "pair" they can go faster. Hooked up they are doing 200+ MPH and how the second car gets enough cool air to not hand grenade is beyond me. Not sure of the outcome if Nascar will allow this to continue to happen so try to get a look at it before (?) it gets banned.

PIT STOPS: The pit stops are a work of art. Each wheel has 5 wheel nuts on it just like a real car, they jack it up with a trolley jack and they put fuel in it with a petrol can.

PAY BACKS: There aren't many sports where i've seen this happen and i'm not condoning nor criticizing it because i assume this one may polarize opinions. What generally seems to happen is if some one gets hit, bumped, turned around, written off e.t.c is they fix the car or just keep limping around and wait for their assailant to drive past and then run into them. What's interesting about this is it seems to be part of the accepted part of racing? Was watching a race the other day where it happened and the post race interview went something like " Yeah well i guess i desereved it, Billy Raye was blocking me so i gave him a shove (turned him around and speared him off into a tyre barrier) so next time i came past i knew he'd be looking for me, and well he go me good (Pretty well destroyed his car) but i guess i deserved it so now we're even"

I'm not sure i'm ready to devote my sunday afternoon to it but it's certainly worth having on in the corner of the workshop while working on a real car!!

nascars shit all over the taxies

is it next year they change to efi?

yeah seen bump drafting they were doing that at deaga when we went sure is a sight .

yes tempers do get hi makes for good tv.

i enjoy the green whit chequer flag finishes because of the amount of lead changes and it looks like it is very to go from the front to down the back.

Cheers H

The rear car moves out to the side to let air in the intake from time to time.

Saw an interesting bit yesterday, under a caution they all shot into the pits for fuel and tires and one car gets hit and turned around. Actually ended up in his pit bay backwards. The crew didn't miss a beat, they serviced the car facing the wrong direction and then he was off again with a bit of a donut.

The thing that appeals to me about nascar is someone in 5th or even 10th place can still win with one lap to go, oh and there is racing every week. Not once in a blue moon.

I went and saw quite a few Nascar/Auscar/HQ races at the Thunderdome back in the lare 80s/early 90s. The racing was exciting and the V8s sounded great. This was at a time when the ATCC was being overtaken with Sierra/Skylines. During these years Nascar could really have taken off here if CAMS had been behind it, once the rules were changed and Holden and Ford V8s were once again able to rule the ATTC it was all downhill for Nascar here.
Pity - it was good to watch.

Interesting comments made on the Nascar "All Star Race" this morning

They mentioned the Holden SS Commodore will be coming to the USA as the Chevy, something... sorry I missed the name

This will be the car Chevrolet will be racing in 2013

They then said it will be the first rear wheel drive, passenger sedan running a V8, that will be produced in the U.S. in what I thought they said was 28 years (though I could be wrong)

Anyway the commentators were pretty stoked with the idea, plus to intially have a commodore in NASCAR before its production is shifted to the U.S. will be awesome

Without getting to far off topic i must admit i pretty well have a soft spot for anything with a high revvin V8 in it that is competitive and / or exciting. ( E.G Supercars, Nascars, F5000, Drag boats, Top Fuellers, Monster trucks, Sand drag bikes, Swamp Buggies and don't even get me started on tractor pulls as they usually have about 4 or 5 bolted onto them. :blink2: )

Was off the Supercars for a while a few years back but had been starting to follow them a bit more. The last few rounds of last year had some great races in them and the start of this season has had some of the best racing i have see for a long, long time. :3gears:

Yeh but she looks good so therefore she is a marketable product

Her sponsor should be "Who's your Daddy" not "Go Daddy"
