We were told some stuff about it but wanted to know if anyone has any photos of these in the day or anymore info.It is a mainly red jacket with a white ring around the collar area. The arms have a black patch almost a foot long on them. There is some white on the back but as framed cant tell how big.It also has a square Malrboro Holden Dealer Team patch on left breast. It is a smooth silky feel to jacket.
The story we were told is a friend of the family used to race his Torana at Barbagallo Raceway here in Perth. He took it to Bathurst one year but it did not do many laps in the 1000 race. The story goes when Peter Brock came over to Perth for a race his car crapped itself(not sure if crashed or what) and he borrowed the friends car.During the weekend our friend was given the jacket,( not sure where or who it came from but was from the team) does anyone have any info or ideas about these jackets or where I could come up with some pics of them.I believe the Jacket to be from the 70's.I will try to sort a pic out soon to for a visual help. Thanks in advance-Craig

. Tony used to race an orange LC or an LJ Torana in those days. I think I have a photo of it at Waneroo. I do recall he lent that car to possibly Brock , on one race meeting. I think it was the same meeting where we had some Eastern staters over and Allan moffat had his Cologne Capri there.
I am of the belief Tony's car was prepared by the HDT or whatever it was called back then.
Wilkinson raced in street class in his car, which was a joke, because it was a full race car although was originally set up as a rally car.
I raced a Datsun 1600 along with another mate in a 1600 also. We had to originally race in Sports Sedans because there was no street class at first. A chap called Elmer Vadja was already racing in Sports Sedan in a street class Subaru Sherpa I think it was.
And I might add on street tyres, and getting his butt kicked every weekend, but we loved his spirit and determination.
So we joined in with him.
After we started racing other street cars joined in and then BF Goodrich decided to have a dedicated street class.
Thus Street class started. I still have write ups with pictures from Racing Car News.
When Tony seen us having such a good time, he entered his full house Torana to dominate the class.
Pissed us off no end, the car was not in the true gesture of "street car"
Another chap whose name escapes me but also worked at Karquip, Cannington raced his street car Volvo on the series.
I also still have the programmes from those race days which were ran by the WA Sporting Car Club
If anyone wants any more info, or photos, I could possibly dig them out.
The local track photographer was called MOSPORT PHOTOS, Graeme Donaldson.
If he could be found he would have photos of Wilkinsons car, along with the local hero Tim Slako who used to race an LH SLR I think, it was. He also raced at Bathurst a couple of times. Good guy, I think his car may have been pink?
Cheers,
Regards,
Niko

First shot of Tony passing my mates Datto 1600. We both ran under assumed names in those days so as to not effect Insurance etc.
I was known as Paul JULIAN and my mate was Jon HOWARD.

Although equipped with the mudflaps and lights, etc (probably even still running a HALDA etc) the car had been set up for some quick speed, (interesting and some would say unfair) engine mods) which is all good fun, but not in the spirit of Street Class in those days. Waneroo had two very good straights, so speed was a good thing to have if the handling wasn't as flash as it should have been.
The car was slowly made into a street car racer from memory. (should have been a Sports Sedan except it was running on radials not slicks)
After a few meetings the street class ranks swelled and we had Chargers, gt falcons, twin cam escorts, mini Cooper S's even a BMW ALPINA which was the only one in the country at the time, etc etc joining in, and slowly Tony lost the dominance in the class.
The racing back then was just sensational. Put a roll cage in your car, a fire extinguisher, a laminated windscreen, get a CAMS licence and off you go. Great stuff without too much expense.
