Hey all

I'm fairly certain LC windscreen wipers are taken off by force but I've never been able to do it myself. Well.. now i need to!

Does anyone have any techniques or tools they use to help this process? Looks like it'd require some serious leverage and has plenty of potential to become a bonnet-scratching projectile.

Make sure the "safety catch is not still in place(if fitted)
Put a towel on the plenum chamber and place a wooden block thats ~2-3cm thick on the towel and positon under the wiper arm as close possible to the drive shaft. Should be able to use a large screwdriver as a lever here between the block and the arm, work it from both sides of the shaft and you should get a slow release.

Fold the wiper back first...and use a screwdriver to lever against the little clip on the underside...towels and blocks of wood would be useful in stopping scratches as previously described.

Just make sure you only lever the wiper not the cap on the end of the spindle

yeh i bent the shit outa the bottom of the wipers tryin to get em off a junker we had. never tried again, left it to the expert (step dad)

i did mine a few months ago, asked for an lj wiper arm and got a hq wiper arm. same era i guess but there is a definate size difference. thats just my 2 bob, as the guys said above. TOWELS ARE NECCESARY!!!! bit of force needed if its been a while since they were played with last. if you still have the safety catch in place i used needle nose pliers to hold it back with left hand whilst manouvering the screwdriver with the right. lot of swearing later and the jobs done.

Thanks a lot everyone.

I did it today, here was my technique.

Take a small flat-head screwdriver and slip it just below the wiper arm but inside the little groove. Twist it and it'll lift up, even without releasing the saftey catch manually.
Then I used a small wooden block covered in towel as a pivot point (the rest of the towel i wrapped around the whole wiper). Using a bigger screwdriver as the lever, it slid off no problem.

If you lift the wiper blade up first, then depress the safety catch (which is only required for the left hand wiper blade btw --> on LH anyways as it doesn't run square to the screen) then with it depressed, put the wiper blade back down, it will lock in the open position, allowing you to remove the blade.

Agree, towel is required cause they come off in a hurry, usually ending up on the bonnet.
