For me, nothing looks worse than later model mirrors on older cars, the LH never came with them, perhaps its not as bad as seeing them on EHs and the ford sports mirrors on older fords , stay with what came as original.

If you must go with them, either have one just on the drivers side or have a matching one for the passenger side, it would look awful to have sports mirror one side and standard the other.. (I bleieve there where actually more made for the uc torana and they were given the name of sports mirror rather than GTS where they appeared on the HX and HZ monaros)

Regardless of all that, Id take the standard rect mirror, the only thing that Ive had stolen off any of my cars in over 30+ years owning torries is the sports mirrors(and they didnt take the trouble to unscrew them), sell them and let them be someone elses problem.

The rect mirror is actually bigger and a lot more useable in traffic, especially when you are looking at the left one from the drivers seat, the left hand sports mirror is too small to be useful.

GTS mirrors without a doubt, painted black like the bonnet.

Standard mirrors look just that - standard... And look great on standard looking Toranas.

Nothing wrong with a black and chrome, period correct mirror. The look grouse!

the LH never came with them,

A wise man once said "never say never".

I do believe that the LH Torana Plus4 came factory-fitted with these sports mirrors. They may have been the very first Holden to receive them. I stand to be corrected on that point.

I've had both types on my cars but prefur the original LH chrome mirror, while on the subject of mirrors have many of you guys noticed that the L34 and 74 LH SL/R models originally only came with a drivers side mirror? was it an option to have a passenger side mirror fitted? or did this start on later models? i see many people have added a passenger side mirror on their cars. My 74 L32 SL/R only had a drivers side mirror and ive since seen this on many original SL/Rs and L34s.

No argument from me, though I did the homework on this years ago and could see no original pics of lh slrs 5000 from the era with these mirrors, especially ones from racing and if they existed would have been used?

The only cars to get exterior mirrors both sides (as standard equipment) in those days (74/75) were vans & One-Tonners. I think that you will find that the 1st Holden series to get mirrors on both sides as factory standard on all models was the WB. Even the HJ Caprice & VB Commodore (non-SL/E) had no left-mirror as standard, but as before they were available as a dealer-fitted accessory & this is the case with most LH Toranas.

As mentioned elsewhere the Plus4 was probably the first Torana to get 2 mirrors standard (sports ones to boot). Sports mirrors both sides became common for LX (SL/R & SS) &HX (GTS & Sandman etc.).

Run the sports mirrors mate. They arent modern at all , they just look better imo. They have been around since Jesus walked the earth just like round headlights. If you were going 100% concourse for sure throw on the chromies but like me you didnt go that way. :)

I don't know why they're always referred to as GTS mirrors, I call them SL/R mirrors. I'm pretty sure my 76 LX SL/R came with them.

I also believe they were standard on UC SL/E's. A friend also swears they were on some Geminis - not sure about that one.

The passenger side mirror didn't become legislation till 1981 so most cars released pre-1981 didn't have them.

I see by your build thread you are changing the front to LX style light surrounds and have the LX paintouts
I'd run the sports mirrors - black so you have tough mirrors B) - chrome ones just wouldn't look right
One of those "just can't put my finger on it things" but something doesn't look right

My opinion only though - great looking car and following the build
