Yes, 4cyl had a cable clutch system according to the LJ parts manual. I haven't held a 4cyl pedal in my hands but it looks different to the rat trap version in the drawings.

Hi all..
Just an update on this conversion... since its been on the road and after the second clutch, it started developing a horrible squeak when the clutch pedal was down on the floor... sitting at the lights with the thing squealing is NOT cool!!
Anyway, after a bit of digging around and chatting to a few people, I decided to rip the box out again and have a look... this is what the thrust bearing face looked like!!
Having a closer look at how the bearing sits... well... not very good...
I decided to go with the WB thrust bearing.... considering everything else was WB, bell housing and fork...
All looks better when you use the right bearing...
Anyway, time will tell if this solves the issue.. after changing the bearing, it gave the clutch a whole new feeling, allot smoother but will see how things go.
Has anyone else out there had issues using a standard thrust bearing with the WB cable clutch?
My mixed bag now consist's of;
Red motor flywheel, clutch plate and pressure plate
WB holden bell housing, clutch fork and thrust bearing
HZ pull type clutch cable
LC 4 cylinder cable clutch pedal
A real bag of mixed nuts!!!
Hope this helps
Cheers

Hi Ribz0
Good job on the conversion, and I'm doing the same on my LJ (noting the Throwout bearing issue!!). Can you describe how the cable outer is secured at the bellhousing end. I'm remote from my car and buying everything I need before I getback there in a few weeks!!
Cheers

Hi Ribz0,
Do you have any photos of the Bellhousing end of the cable so I can see what the outer cable is attached to. I have a UC bellhousing on my engine at the moment, but not sure what I need to buy to secure the cable at that end, and there is not enough old cars laying about these days to have a look ?!?!
Cheers

I found with that plastic thrust bearing that it wasn't up to the job and it collapsed,i ended up using what I think was a HQ bearing carrier and hav'nt looked back

This one ?

Looks to me like a standard one with no bearing on it
The fork will help determine the bearing

I converted my m21 to hydraulic. Took me about an hour. I just used a Quatar Master hydraulic release bearing and set the shims. Id trust it over cable any day
Hi
Could you tell me what the part number was for the Quartermaster Hyd throwout for the M21. Every one I've spoken to says its not possible to fit one not that I believe them cause I have seenit done but cant find the part number.
cheers

Hi ya Brett.. sorry for the delay..
I am running a WB bell housing so it has the mounting for the cable built into it... I wont be back home for another week yet but will get some pics up if no one has posted any by then.
Cheers

Brilliant.
Exactly the same bellhousing as mine, and with the "Pull" type cable link on rare spares I'm all sorted.
Ill put a few picks of my install (Including modifying the 6 cylinder pedal) up to put some more "flavour" on this link.
Regards and Thanks
Brett
