G'day Fellow Members,
Have a 9 inch in my LX with 3.0 to 1. Thinking of changing the ratio. 50% of my driving is highway & the other 50% street. Was considering a 3.5 to 1 as this will give me more acceleration off the mark but only increase my rpm's by about 300 when doing 100 on the highway. A happy medium I reckon.
What do you think?

something between 3.25 and 3.5 would be nice. thats probably whats going in my car, but i suppose mine hardly sees the highway anymore, anyone got a set of 4.44's for a sailsbury?lol

I used to have 3.5 : 1 in my old 9", with 245/50 14's the car would do 3000 Rpm @ 100 kph. Great acceleration but I wouldn't want to have to drive on a Hwy for too long at one time.

If you do 50% of your driving on the highway I would not change it! Maybe 3.25. Depends how much you want that acceleration! I've found 3.5's are definitely a very happy medium though, if you're not overly concerned with your fuel bill, then go for 3.5's for sure. It will still sit on the highway at ok revs. It's all a compromise.

The next car I build is gonna cop 3.7's or 3.9's, but with either a T700 (gimme over-drive), or a 5 speed man-well. The way fuel prices are going these days, these type of issues are starting to matter more and more.

Totally agree with LXCHEV.

I had a 2.75 diff with the M21 but changed that to a 3.9 diff when the T56 was fitted. Install a gearbox with an over-drive and you can have the best of both worlds. :D

I had 3.5's in the 9"in my LX and i found them to be good. I didn't think it was to bad on the highway and the acceleration was certainly on the fun side.
