Hi all
Need help in trying to work out the correct method of plumbing the 2 hoses from the radiator to the heater box.

I have a couple of different photo's of LC XU1 engine bays, early photos show the hose going from the radiator to the triple's manifold (connecting to 2 brass fittings on the manifold) at the front then another 2 piece's of hose from the rear of the manifold to the heater box.

The other photo's I have and also from what I've seen just show the hoses going from the radiator around the rocker cover to the heater box.

Any help appreciated.
Cheers

Hi bundy black.

AFAIK the 2 heater hoses on an LC XU-1 go from the heater box, over the rocker cover, then 1 hose goes to the side of the thermostat housing & the other 1 to the small fiitting on the water pump.

The 2 small outlets on the LH of the thermostat housing connect to the inlet manifold.

On LJ XU-1s both hoses go from the heater box to the 2 small fittings on the LH side of the thermostat housing. The inlet manifold is not connected on an LJ XU-1.

Here's a pic from a '70's Wheels magazine, showing the heater hose routing on an LC XU1. The heater connected to a tapped fitting on the lower thermostat housing and to the cast fitting on the water pump intake.
The inlet manifold was connected to the 2 cast fittings on the other side of the thermostat housing. This is the way i've seen it connected, although it's possible the late LC XU1's were different. LJ XU1's did not have any water connections.

The standard cars also used this system of connecting the heater, as until 1 Jan 1970 heaters did not have to fitted for ADR compliance, but the engines required
manifold heating.

On standard LJ's (non XU1) the heater plumbing was revised, the water goes through the manifold, then the heater and back to the thermo housing, so the housing is not tapped and the fitting on the pump in not drilled out, hope this helps

P.S. If the pics a bit small i can email a larger one

The photo's I have are like the ones you posted gm3300. I think I am confusing them with the hoses that Dr Terry has mentioned.

So Dr Terry what is the purpose of the 2 small outlets on the thermo connecting to the manifold (probably a dumb question).

Does anyone have any better photo's showing both lots of plumbing?

Thanks
