Im building a LC Torana street / strip car with a holden 355 with 390kw, Powerglide with hi stally etc etc etc.
I purchased a PWR crossflow radiator and i am now trying to find a good strong thermo fan that puts out good CFM. Ive looked at the 16" davies craig and they put out 2120cfm, a SPAL from pwr that puts out 3000cfm (but its $450 just for the fan, and its not waterproof), plus ive found a brand on the net thats called Zirgo which puts out 3630cfm and is pretty cheap. I dont know what sort of cfm is needed for a street / strip car, and a few other sites say that the hi stally gets the engine alot hotter.
What sort of thermo fans do you's all use in your street / strip Torana's?
Any help would be good.
Cheers.

Got a set of the au fans on my rad. There good I had them on my old tonner as well they keep the 355 stroker cool... and it had a 3500 stall. The guys down at browns radiators reckons they are the go and they put them on all their larger combos. They come built into a shroud that should mount up nicely.

The Zirgo cfm claims are rather dubious if you compare the current draw of a Zirgo fan with the Spal fans and many others.

As a general rule of thumb it appears that an 12 volt electric fan can produce between 100 and 150 cfm per 1 amp current draw. Zirgo claim their "16 Fan produces 3000 cfm and draws 10 amps. SPAL claim their high performance sealed "16 Fan produces around 2000 cfm and draws around 20 amps. The unsealed Spal extreme is rated at 3000 cfm and draws 26 amps.

You should find the Spal fans considerably cheaper through Repco.

I'm running he 16" got from summit parts and been on the car for 3 years.. Runs super smooth and low noise compared to other fans, never have I had a heating issue and it will hold cardboard to the grille of my lx without a problem.

Also like the fact of the lifetime warranty of the ball bearing fan motor.

My opinion worth every cent. And better to mount than them crusty looking au fans

Cheers
