Just wondering what size exhaust you guys run on your lc/lj's its a 186 with what im told alittle work, dont know what cam it has, doesnt sound huge but i dont really know 6's does have tripple su setup. Im happy to run one muffler and dump at diff so i was thinking 21/2 to 3''

Thanks,
Ash.

3" is absolutely massive.
I'd be leaning towards 2 - 2.25

Ah ok, i was thinking if a 308 with 350 odd hp gets twin 21/2 a 186 would be around 1/2 the total size even with 1/2 the power so 21/2-3''

Oh well loud as hell 186 might not happen :banghead:

Thanks.

I'm running a 2 1/2" with single rear muffler, sounds awesome - if a little on the loud side :D . Just ask levis(username) he can vouch for the sound

Sounds like 21/2 single muffler is the way to go. Has anyone used hooker mufflers on a 6? they sound good on 8s.

My old 202, Cheap extractors and muffler (Wildcat), Single 2.5" exhaust over the diff, WW Stromburg feeding it.

It was quite the drone exhaust, but didn't sound too bad for a stock 6 i guess.

2 1/2" with black 202, solid cam, triples, pacemakers and single muffler. I wouldn't go any bigger.

Cheers,

I would go 2.25 to 2.5" should sound good!
I have heard mixed things about the hooker mufflers, some love 'em some hate 'em I suppose!

Shane that is one hot LC mate, i love it.
Yeah it looks like 21/2 is the way to go and im thinking will run it to the back of the car but single muffler before diff if i can get away with it, really after a barky sound but i guess will have to try and see what happens, thanks heaps guys.

Ash.

I'll record a sound from my torana tommorow morning. My exhaust is using the two piece xu-1 headers which join into a single 2 1/2" pipe about halft way along the g/box. Just then runs to a single super cat muffler at the rear with twin 2 1/2" outlets

I've recorded a short WAV file. It didnt come up as good as I would have liked but. I had to record it from the bonnet of my cruiser which was parked next to it and I reckon it was still just a little loud for the mic. If anyone wants to hear it send me a PM with your email and I'll forward it on. If you guys want something better, I know the sound comes up heaps better with my camera, but it will be a bigger file

Ran 2 1/4" on the UC with 186cu, sounded good and went good. Now have 2 1/2" on the UC with same motor, sounds better and goes better up high too.

Food for thought...

I know mine is only a 173, but i had a 2 1/4" on a stock 173 and i went down to a 2" and gain aheap of torque down low. Maybe with a worked 186 motor i would go with 2 1/4" or even 2" for a daily maybe.

I am planning on sticking with the 2" when i get the 202 in, and thats gonna be hopefuly a wild street motor... but dailyable so no 40/80 cams. :tease:

I really dont know whats done to it but it pulls good to 6000 and i would like it to see 7000 if it still made power :D as i like my revs but im more after a crackle/raspy (if thats a word) sound and not so much deep drone as i dont want it to sound like a jap car.
Oh well will talk to my exhaust guy and tell him what i want and see what happens.

Thanks guys,
Ash.

Make sure you dont get suckered in though... Ask him what's 'best' for your car, and work from there!

Will go see chris at Best Mufflers in carlton, he did my hatch for me many years ago and some mates cars not that long ago, not many people go to the hassle that he does when building an exhaust.

Thanks,
Ash.

With a mild 202 a 2in or 2 1/4in exhaust with work best.On my old 202 with 40/80 cam, triple webbers I had 2 1/2in & 1 straight through muffler it sounded awsome but pretty loud.If you want it loud dont use reverse flow mufflers.

I put a 2 inch system lukey extractors and a lukey sports muffler on a stock 186 thats in the EJ and it sounds realy nice, cost me about $500 fitted.

Cheers Chris
