To Be Honest unless your old tags are totally cactus then try to work / repair what ya got...... And if they are "Kanga-Roo-Ted" then you have NO chance, So slow n steady with a fine scourer or steel wool pads & jiff, will bring em up a treat...... Try it on rear of tags to make sure 1st......

Even though there have been a couple of mobs offering to remake tags, IT IS ILLEGAL.
Seeking to have them made, making them or possessing them is illegal.
You'll have to make do with wha you have.

Just to clarify that. Many people incorrectly call all 3 plates 'compliance' plates. This is not correct, only the ADR plate is the compliance plate, the other 2 are called the Body ID plate & the GM-H VIN plate. The legalities refer only the the compliance plate. AFAIK it is not legal to remove, swap, alter, replace or do anything else to that particular plate.
To my knowledge there are no rules regarding the other 2. The various authorities, RTA, VicRoads, Police etc. are only interested in the engine number, the chassis number & the ADR compliance plate (where the chassis number is repeated). All of the numbers on the Body ID plate & the GM-H VIN plate are of no interest to the various authorities.

Terry, it references the "identification" of the vehicle....all tags and chassis number cannot be fooled with.

Hi Grant.
Yes, you are correct in a fashion.
This is bit of a 'curly' one. As I see it, you are only breaking the law, that is criminal law, if you tamper with engine no., chassis no. or the ADR plate. This would become a Police matter very quickly. I'm not sure of the penalties but they would be fairly severe.
The ID of the rest of the vehicle is a civil matter & only then if the car is being misrepresented. What I mean by that is, there is no law to say you can't remove or remake (or whatever) any plate other than the ADR plate. But if you change the ID of the car to make it something it isn't e.g. changing an 8VC69 (SL) into an 8VD69 (SL/R) by altering or swapping plates, to increase its value for resale, then the buyer can take the seller (if he's a dealer) to Fair Trading for misrepresentation. If it's a private purchase the buyer takes the seller to court at his own cost. This is purely a civil matter with no police involvement.

Fraud is a criminal offence Terry hehehe
I think we've now narrowed it down quite well.
Should anyone want to have new tags made you MUST contact your local registration authority any follow their instructions, which may be "no".
