Rear spring LJ , metal retainer flange - how to get off ?

One of the last sandblast things that i need to do is the rear springs, The ones here came off the GTR and they have this retainer flange, which looks like it's been put together and then flattened over in order to keep the top and the bottom from separating.

The rubber is in the middle.

These springs are K-Mac and have been replaced.

My question is;

Do i just drill then out or grind them off to separate the flanges or is there another way. It just seems like there is no other way to get them apart.

I assume that there is no after market ones around and therefore will have to re use these again.

when i replaced mine i drilled the heads off,and machined some spacers out of nylon and also machined up some steel washers,the rubbers where all but totally stuffed

^^^ Yep, just drill or grind the flange off the tubular rivet to separate everything. When I did mine I just reused the original tubular rivet and put it all back together as I assembled it into the car. Once you do the bolt up it will hold it all together.
AFAIK the only reason they were originally assembled like that onto the spring was to make installation easier and quicker on the assembly line.

Yeah Dave, its all apart now, tried to drill but it just spun. Cold chisel, hammer and puch and it came out.

PS;

Can anyone tell me the spring height of the GTR torana and was the Xu1 the same.

LJ parts catalogue has the rear spring listed as being for 82911 model (ie: GTR & XU1) and LJ workshop supplement has the rear spring listed as being for 82911 & XU1. Free length is 9.03"

Well here are the two spings i have to put in the car;
1) is 8 inches - what was in the GTR
2) is seems like the standard 9 inch - what was in the four door - must have been replaced

The 8 inch is really thicker gauge than the other one, Im pretty sure that the car was raced at some stage, but there is no signs of a cage holes, but plenty of other signs of a hard life.

Maybe i just get both of them blasted and coated.

Does anyone else know much about spring heights and finished heights - I'm running the original rims on this when done, but may go to a 15 inch rim later

The following are the genuine spring specs from the LJ Supplement however I think they won't apply to the springs you have.
If my memory serves me correctly Selby springs, sway bars and replacement suspension components were painted Yellow so both pairs of springs you have there might be Selby's.
