I have some grills for my UC Torana. On one, the plastic is great but the chrome paint is peeling. Is there any paint that would be good to paint on plastic for this?

I'd be interested in what people have used for chrome paint. I need some too.

Supercheap now sell a spray on chrome paint and from memory it's maybe $18.00 per can. Go get one, do your spraying then show us all photo's of the job and give your comments on the product.

You never know you might become famous on the forum for doing so.

;)

Put down some plastic primer first, or it will eat the plastic. Would be interested to see how the chrome paint goes as well, result prolly dependent on time spent prepping it and buffing it up.

I haven't used Supershits new spray can stuff but I've tried Motosprays chrome paint and one I think called Kromebrite which also comes in a spray can. I used them on my brake lines and my horn. Both are shit. Don't bother. I think most rattle can paint just tends to absorb dirt more than conventional paint. It doesn't have that protective film around it so dirt, finger prints, moths etc - stick to it like flies on shit. Maybe paint it 2 pack metallic silver? Will last heaps longer and won't look so tacky.

I just went through this myself, after looking at all the cheap alternatives I gave in and emptied my wallet for 2k silver, 2k clear and hardner to paint my brake calipers and stearing arms. I almost was going to try one of those chromy rattle cans with clear enamel over the top, rattle can silver and gold on its own is very temporary and usualy looks rough. If any one trys putting clear over the rattle can silver it would be interesting to see how it would come out. offcourse it wouldnt have as good chemical and heat resistance.

best thing to do.. purchase plastic primer can.. purchase matt black can.. purchase chromo spray can (all available from supercheap auto)...

Spray the primer... let dry.. spray the black.. let dry... then spray the chrome.

I did it to the plastic on my laptop.. looks unreal.. and for an even better job after i did a few coats of the chrome (and let each dry).. i used a cut and polish paste (also from supercheap auto) and cloth.. and buffed the job

Looks unreal and cheap to do

Hi Canaryuc, you dont happen to have any very clear photo's of the finished product do you?
It would be interesting to see how it turns out.

They replied, will cost me $300 to re-chrome a grill. Too rich for my blood.

I tried the rattle can stuff from SuperCheap (the expensive stuff) and I can say that it looks like total rubbish.

It looks like the silver paint you get for models, rubbish. I'll be going to a weckers when I get near one, currently in Tumut...

Toranavista found some really good 3M chrome tape. Looked good, just as an alternative method.
