Can you weld through SEEM SEALER

Hi all..I have a question, if any one can help..
Im wanting to use SEEM SEALER on my resto..Can I Mig or spot weld through it once its clamped up? If not..what do you guys do/use?
I noticed on some sections of my car that there is some seem sealer between the panels and its been factory spot welded..
Any one??

No you absolutely can not seal it first.

You will seal it afterwards.

Ive never tried it with seam sealer,but I used to spotweld through silicon years ago manufacturing household skylights.

It used to burn a bit and stink a lot,and would blow holes if the silicon had started to go off.

Try it on some scrap steel and see what happens.


Just a tip when spot welding,make sure the surfaces are touching before you try to spotweld,or you will blow holes in the steel.

If you try to use the spotwelder as a clamp,you will blow holes.

Personally,I would seal it after welding.

Wont be too water tight...

Run a bead along the top, if you have access to the bottom run a bead along there to, or just fill it with tectyl.

Just make sure when you do weld you've got a air blower or water handy to put any fires out started from welding near the seam sealer that may still be between the panels. Cause that shit burns good!
