Ok im down to crunch time. Ive cut my radiator support on my LC so now its vertical, and im now seeing what i can do about cooling. I have a holden 355 fitted to it with 520hp and dont want to take the wrong move and cook the engine.
I dont know how well the Davies Craig water pumps handle and what is sufficient waterflow to keep the engine happy.

I have a PWR crossflow radiator and a CVR electric waterpump. I originally wanted a big 16 inch zirgo thermo fan that pumps out 3630CFM, but it wont fit between pump and radiator. I measured the front of the radiator tonight while its fitted to the car, and there is only 13.5 inches tall by 24 inches wide exposed that i can mount fans to.

Options-
1- Ok so I can either ditch the CVR waterpump and get Davies Craig and hope it works as good, and get my 16 inch fan.
or
2- Keep the CVR waterpump and try fit 2 12 inch thermo fans to the front.Posted Image

I think the Zirgo cfm claims are rather dubious. As a general rule of thumb it appears that an 12 volt electric fan can produce between 100 and 150 cfm per 1 amp current draw. Zirgo claim to somehow manage to produce more than three times the cfm per amp than SPAL and Davis Craig.

Zirgo claim their ZFU16S produces 3630 cfm and draws 10 amps. (360 cfm/A)

SPAL claim their high performance sealed "16 Fan produces around 2000 cfm and draws around 20 amps (100 cfm/A).

SPAL extreme 16" is rated at 3000 cfm and draws 26 amps (115 cfm/A).

Davies Craig 16" fan. 2120 cmf draws 19 amps (111 cfm/A).

Terra i cant move the radiator forward unless i cut out half of the front lower valance, and at the top rad support if i modify it the boonet catch will have to be modified. I trimmed the side rad support so the radiator sits vertical and flat rather then leaning backwards at the top, it gave me about 15mm extra clearance but not enough.

Ls2lxhatch i ended up buying 2 12 inch thermo fans off fleabay today, they claim to have 3 yr warranty and good cfm. I thought if they are crap i'll try palm them off coz they are only cheap anyway. Here's the 1's i bought. The only thing with having 2 12inch fans is that the fans will overlap the rad support sides by about 1.5 inches each side. http://www.ebay.com....984.m1439.l2649

At that price you do not have a lot to loose.

Yeh that's what I thought. I told them to specify in the invoice the big cfm and warranty, that way if they are bull crapping it's all in writing.
I'll test the fans before I fit them aswell.

I was going to suggest one of the Spal twin shrouded fan assemblies, but you don't have enough height eg. twin 11" assembly http://www.spalusa.c...C.PDF#view=FitH

Some other companies make similar products eg. Flexalite, so you might be lucky? You really want a shroud on a puller set up, they make a big difference over just fixing a round fan onto the core.

(I'm running the twin 11" on my 4WD and they work very well - better than the factory viscous hub fan in 45 degree Adelaide heat.)

One other thing, check out each fan's CFM rating at different pressures to get a real idea how they perform. For example Spal make numerous fans in the same size, but different models often perform markedly better once there is a restriction in the air flow.

(Of course there are huge differences between the brands once a pressure drop is factored in.)

After a lot of stuffing around I can't get the twin 12" fans to sit close enough to radiator. So looks like I might have to ditch the water pump and get a Davies Craig, the fit spal fan at rear.

not sure, ive never heard of them. I'll have a look tonight. Im going to try scallop the rear of the valance a few inches to fit a 16 inch fan, its the only other way i think it can be done. I rang the engine builder today and he reccomended keeping the water pump because it pumps more water then davies craig.

Yeah I've heard the inline Davies Craig's arnt much chop. How close is the fan face from the radiator? Could maybe get a cm there by making it sit closer

change your timimng cover that sits miles out if you get a aftermarket cover designed for a ewp you should be able to just bolt one up cools good and much neater than davies craig and should give heaps of clearence for thermos

Between radiator and water pump there is about 3/4 inch gap.

ive decided to sell my 2 12 inch fans and buy a 16 inch zirgo fan. I'll scallop the rear of the lower valance so the fan will fit, that way it shoul sit snug against radiator. I'll know next week how that plan goes.
