It should have come with instructions!! Anyway, you'll have a series of wires, more often than not the red is for the ignition, there should be one for lights, one to the +ve side of the coil, one for earth and if its autometer, you'll have to cut a wire on the rear for 6cyl, if its something else it may have a switch on the back saying "4 - 6 - 8".

Select your cylinder amount "4 or 6 or 8". You need to run the light wire to your headlight switch so it lights up at night! Im unsure about the colours of the coil and light ones though, ill check mine and tell you what autometer use....

My coil wire is green, but that could still be the original from when i had the speco tacho in my car... So we know red and black are positive ignition and earth respectively, green SHOULD be for the coil pos (dont quote me there). What does that leave you with?

Mine is mounted on the a pillar drivers side, you can also put it on your steering column or get tricky and put it in your dash... If it interferes with your vision in the sweep of the windscreen wipers, then dont mount it there. QLD rule anyway, not sure about other states!
