Great find! I loved that race when they did it and its good to be able to see it again, still awesome. How about Skaife just flying past going down conrod, amazing.

Thats a pretty cool video, the outcome wasn't suprising. l would like to see the Supercar go up against an F1, that would be an amazing demonstration of speed differential if ever there was one.

reminds me of the amc masters last year that army co ford in one race got an advantage when the a9x came into pits (stop go penalty) and he got heaps in front by the last lap the a9x ran straight past it the crowd roaded and screamed as the mighty a9x screamed down easterncreeks straight and screamed right past the ford magnificant moment which il never forget as long as i live :D :D the a9x won all races from memory and in the biante series from memory the XU1s were 123 in 2 races but the last was something like 12345!! truly a awsome day for me :D

it would have been interesting if the A9X had the right diff gears (3.08 instead of 3.55) and a fresh engine

Wasn't the 2.6 diff ratio an option on the A9Xs for Bathurst?

Would have been wicked to see the A9X with a more correct diff ratio... Skaife passed Brock like he was standing still on Conrod... It must have had the wrong ratio in it. Sure technology has improved heaps, but that A9X was pretty quick... not that i was around to remember it :tease:

I don t know if its in the vid but my brother picked up an interesting thing about the A9X... as it is coming around forrest elbow... you see the car under steering.. if you look closely it is over heating and is loosing coolant right in front of the RHF tyre.... I thought it was smoke.. but my brothers guess looks more possible.

Fairly sure the 2.6:1 diff was an option red could confirm..
One thing you have to remember about bathurst is that it is a very long and steep climb to the top and the tall gears are not well suited to this it loads the engine too much and effects the durability of the bottom end. most of the teams had realized this by the mid 70's and stopped fitting the tall gears to the rear.Sure you lose 20-30 kph down the hill from what was the 2nd hump onwards, but you gained 6-8 seconds on the haul up the hill!
BTW: brock was sandbagging on his lap..... :<_<: On a flyer at bathurst you never look in the rear view mirror at the dipper....

Cheers Greg..

2.60 was an option on the A9X,, but they ran a very tall rear tyre and 3.08 in the HDT A9X's, some teams may have went with another option but I doubt it, I know Bob Morris said they definately ran 3.08. He said they tried 2.60, but it was simply too tall and you actauly lost speed. I believe Brock may have run a different diff in qualifying in 79 to what he ran in the race, because in qualifying he reved it out in third up mountain straight, never went into 4th. Yes I noticed the car spraying fluid out the RHS as well, but I also have vision of this car running in 79 whee it's doing the same thing, so I don't think it's an issue, just overflow, Chris would be able to confirm that. I don't believ Brock was sandbagging, the only place he lost out was on the straight, and Brock managed to win on the Friday, it was just set in such a way the A9X would lose to prove a point.

i had the privilge to speak to the torana go himself earlier this year (harry firth) and he backed me up by saying that the xu1 v8s were the fastest cars they could do 170mph and he reckons they would have been better for bathurst than the a9xs!!!! im a lclj fan but i still love my a9xs and all other toranas imagine what life would be like if it did go into production maybe it woulda been the xu1 v8 instead of the a9x at bathurst in thaty clip

Harry also claimed to be doing 200MPH in an A9X prototype along a freeway in Melbourne. somehow I don't think so. I rember HRT back in about 1992 making a big thing out of cracking 188MPH in the VN Group A at Lana Lang. 170MPH would have been extremely unstable in an XU1 V8

Chris did say the engine in the 05 car was a little sad, they now have the original Bathurst 79 engine for the car. It may have broken something reving it's butt off down Conrod with 3.55 in the rear
