Hi all,
Can't budge the filler plug on my banjo diff and need help!
Before I try and weld a larger nut on to bolt can anybody make a suggestion? I have tried WD40 type spray and Loctite Freeze and Release spray but can't get it to budge. I have had to resort to a chisel on a previous car in the past. I have never removed the bolt on this car before but need to refill the oil after changing the centre.
Thanks, John

Hi John
I know this is a dumb question but you are trying to turn it anti-clockwise aren't you?

Maybe see if you can get a longer ring spanner or put a piece of steel pipe over the end of the spanner to get more leverage.

Cheers
Dave.

Socket and appropriate breaker bar. Works for me.
I have no other bright ideas.

If you can't get it out you can always remove the axle and tip the oil in that way

Give it a good smack. This will disturb the grip it has. Use a single hex socket (impact socket) if the hex is worn. Grind the chamfer off the socket if you have to, to give maximum purchase on the hex.

Thanks.
Yes - I am (attempting to) turning anti-clockwise. Had a 2 foot breaker bar.
Yeah, I was thinking about taking the axle out again and tip in the oil with one side of the vehicle raised.
Rodomo - When you say give it a good whack, do you mean when straight on or on the spanner in the direction to loosen?
Otherwise maybe get a burner for the lpg bottle. Its been emptied but will have some oil still, so may be a fire hazard I think
Thanks everyone

I've done that a few times. As long as the oil goes in and stays in.

Rodomo is on the money. Hit it flush on with a large hammer. Then use a single hex socket and breaker bar as mentioend. If it doiesn'tr undo then something is wrong!

Yeah, I hit it a few times with a 5lb hammer but got it undone with a steel bar on the t-bar and socket. Man, that thing was tight. Does anyone know what type of washer it should have? I assume a copper one like the engine sump plug

Hi

The correct tension of the filler plug should be 25 - 30 lbs ft (33.86 - 40.63 Nm) so copper sounds right. I know mine is.

Cheers
