I know its not exactly the best way of doing this....

I had full intention of spraying my Torana in Acrylic and then when I went to buy the colour paint I wanted (Morpheus Mica), the paint shop said it was not available in Acrylic.

I have almost finished flattening a couple of guards and boot lid using Acrylic Etch Primer and Primer surfacer. I am on the third round of wet sanding the primer and everything is looking good and straight.

I intend this last wet sand to be 1000grit. Is that too fine to have under Urethane?

Will the Urethane 'stick' ok to the Acrylic surfacer? (the paint shop said it would)

Do I wet sand the Urethane before clear? I would not think so.

Can I wait a long time before I put the clear on? 3 months tops.

Thanks boys.

Rip off all the acrylic and apply 2k etch and primer if you are going to use 2k top coat.

By urethane i assume you mean basecoat.

It will probably stick to the acrylic filler, but probably not that well. A urethane primer surfacer over your current substrates will work better.

You must top coat with clear within two hours or so. No sanding.

Or do what Terra said.

if its base coat clear coat ,the base coat will stick to the acrylic ok, and do as bomber said, the only real problem with acrylic primers is it can shrink and that will cause problems later on cheers mick

Agree, that's why I suggest the only option is ripping all the acrylic off first.

I also find it hard Craig.

Morpheous should be available in acrylic.

Its just your average group three pearl mica, you can get these in acrylic.

You cannot get group four Polycromatic's in acrylic to my knowlege, but you can definitely get pearl micas.

Im guessing the paint shop is just to lazy to mix it.

I can make a few calls if the OP wishes. Were not that far away from each other.

Also, i should add, if you want a flashy hero purple off a new car, Phantom from the ford range is a lot nicer color IMO :tease:

Cheers.

Should of been able to do it in Du Pont they usually just use a binder then you can make the system Acrylic, bascoat or 2K then if you use acrylic you can use their chroma clear which is a 2k clear that use to be designed for use over acrylic.
