Gday all.

Questions I have is I brought my 2005 2.4 liter petrol rodeo (4cyl) for work. It drinks 14litres / 100k.s city driving.

For a 4 cylinder is this crazy ? My ve ssv ute gets around the same !!!! Anything I could do to drop it to around 12 or some bearable...

It has the izuzu engine in it.

Any help would be great

Shift it into neutral when you are going down hill.

In guessing things like fuel filter and air filter throttle body have all been changed (throttle body clean out)
Also try running premium unleaded it's worth the extra 9c liter

+1 to what datto said.

Isuzu are a diesel company, they should (should have) stick to what they do best.

It's not just Isuzus, most Japanese petrol commercials don't produce great economy, their rear axle ratios are too low.

If you compare a 4-cyl commercial to say a VT V6 Commodore, @ 100mk/h the Commodore is doing around 1800 rpm, at the same speed the 4-cyl is doing over 3,000 rpm. Not a good recipe for economy.

Have you checked basics? Give it a proper service with the correct oil, make sure air filter is clean and see if you can find anyone with a scan tool and see how the vital sensors are working. A dud oxygen sensor or even a coolant temp sensor can give bad econony. Both my old petrol Hilux' (2.7 & 2.4) used to get around 12L/100km around town.
