hi ive just done a disc brake conversion on my LX using VN commodore brakes and everything went together nicely except the hand brake cable is about 4 inches too short, has any body else done this? if so what did they use or what do i do as i like having a hand brake as it is annoying as i have a manual and i cant leave the car idling when i get out in case it rolls away
thanks adam

I`ve got VR commodore brakes which are the same. I had to have the whole rear section of the cable made to fit my car. Cost me a it too (about 200 bucks)

I was under the impression that an available cable could be used .
Maybe VN wagon

If no-one has the right answer then yes its off to a cable manufacturer with the specs you require and have one made up

I'm not ready to do the brakes on mine so haven't got as far as cables yet

Cheers
Neil

I have seen an answer to this. You could extend the adjusting rod to make the Commodore cable fit. Make up a long nut(say 50mm long) and screw it onto the existing rod by about 25mm. Then buy a piece of threaded rod and screw it into the back of the long nut. Use normal size nuts to lock things into place. Cut the extension rod to the length you want. You will need to make up new guides for the handbrake cable as the cable is now too far back to fit the normal holders. This works but is a bit of mucking around. It depends on the value you place on your time,,is it 200 dollars worth for a weekends work.

im pretty sure that commodore wagons and sedans use the same hand brake cables. i was thinking what cable do A9Xs use as they had disc brake rear ends didnt they? and unlike UCs the A9Xs still had that bloody hand brake foot pedal so they should be that little bit longer or do they have that little ball on the ends of the cables instead of the D bolt style ends that i require

the commodore wagon cables have to be longer, they have a longer wheel base than a sedan

Just make longer "C" shaped brackets - the ones that fit into the floorpan on either side, and that the cable slides through. You can either make longer ones, or get a second set and weld them to the first set, or use steel cable clamps (can get from a marine store or hardware store) to hold them together.

Lengthening the brackets means that the cable doesn't have as far to travel, so it will end up being the right length with appropriate longer brackets.

I did this conversion to one of my old Toranas a few years ago, all I did was measured the length and took some of the ends into a sail boat shop, got one made out of stainless steel for about $50.00 they had similar ends which they just crushed on.
