Not much to go on there
And even with all the numbers... it just proves what the tags are... not the car
How about some pics too

He will know the ins and out
But again... it only confirms the tag numbers.... not the car
Do you have the paint code wrong ?
568-15466 maybe ? (Lettuce Alone green)
Trim code looks right as 10C

Those numbers look good for a Lettuce Alone SS. The lower line of the body ID plate should have M20 for 'TRANS' & GV2 for 'AXLE', but the 'ENG' should be blank. The VIN plate should read 8M69CRxxxxxxx. 8 = Holden, M = Belmont, 69 = sedan, C = 1973 model year (starts 1/9/72) & R = 253 V8. The 10C trim number & 9/72 indicates that it's from the initial batch of SSs.
You mention that the 80269 model is the same as any other Belmont sedan, this is not quite correct. 80269 is the model number for a V8 Belmont sedan, a 6-cyl Belmont would be 80169. How many HQ Belmont V8s do you see that are not SSs ? Not many.
The paint number is interesting I've personally recorded several Lettuce Alone cars with this paint number. I think one of the plants mis-stamped some plates.
dattoman is also correct, the plates might be SS but is the car an SS ?

Thanks guys
Yeah the paint code is stamped with 1 wrong digit and this is something i have heard happening in these before.
It is a 253, four speed... How do i tell if the car is actually the real deal then?
I have tried to upload pics but just couldnt figure out how to do it...

It is unlikely you will see a Lettuce Alone paint number & 10C interior trim number on the same body plate as L31.and if it has l31 (308) eng code it is a gts as i heard no 308 belmonts left the factory

If you are in a car club, you may have a resident guru, who can confirm its identity.
Where in Sydney do you live, I could check it out for you.

I just PMed you back and then found this post.
If you can pm me your email address and I will send the information through to you.
If you can send me larger versions of the pictures it will help out a bit more.
Ok guys here is a little bit of information on the SS's.
They were all made in two batches.
August-September 1972 which carried in to October by at least 10 days.
1600 SS's were made in the first batch with
650 sent to New South Wales.
550 sent to Victoria.
180 sent to Queensland.
140 sent to South Australia.
80 sent to Western Australia.
November-December 1972.
Aproximatly 1200 SS's made in the second batch.
With around 71 series 2's coming to WA
With a 2800 total production number.
2561 sold in 1972
239 sold in 1973
The first cars were finished 18th August 1972
Public relations release was August 23 1972
Initial deliveries to dealers in Victoria August 23 1972
First public showing at the Sydney Motor Show August 25 1972
National Advertising commenced September 1st 1972
Dealer Advertising September 3rd 1972.
Price at release $3295
They all came out with 253,M20 and 3.36 salisbury diffs.
There are three paint types.
Infra Red 568 15413 also called Bluey
Lettuce Alone 568 15466
Ultra Violet 567 15338 also called Smokey
There were two trim types in the SS's.
Black 10C and Black 10D.
C - Black Belmont trim with black and white hounds tooth cloth inserts.
D - Black Belmont trim with black and raydo flax cloth inserts.
All first build cars were fitted with 10C trim.
Some early second build cars had the 10C trim fitted to them but the majority were fitted with 10D trim.
These trim and paint codes are unique to the SS's.
Also being a Sydney HQ from 9th 1972 it will not have the drive line details on the tags.
The earliest SS I have seen with that type of tag on is 12th 1972 build.
Cheers Paul.

You've obviously recorded many more SSs than I have. You mention the that body ID plate with the driveline details started in Dec 72, did all SSs get the later VIN tag with the 8M69CRxxxx type stamping, as I believe these started 1/9/72?
