Tradies are just people. Finding a good honest person to do the job for you should be the priority followed by price, if the person you are dealing with is a fair honest person then the price should reflect the same. Having known many tradies in the panel beating/spraypainting and mechanical industry i wouldnt always say you get what you pay for or that the people doing these jobs are honest or have you best interests in mind. For many its just a form of income so if you're expecting them to become personally invested in what you want done then prepare to be disapointed..its just a fact of life. In saying that, people often have unreal expectations of how much they should be paying for how much work they need done, especially when they have not one idea on how to do a single aspect of the job themselves. For me personally, i got tired of being extorted or paying top dollar for a job i wasnt happy with which was a good thing because it put me on a path to learning about stuff that i am passionate about. Find a good tradie, have realistic expectations and the rest will follow suit..hopefully. ;)

i agree ^^^ well said and i would like to think of myself as one of them people, if i cant meet someones expectations i want take on the job,,, when dealling with workshops of any kind you should let them know what you want from the start and make them give you a price min and max, then they are to contact you if they want to up it,,, remember fellars read the fine line before you sign up for the job. a can of cola from the supermarket will cost you 50 cents from the shop $2 a glass of cola from the casino will cost you $5 plus and it is watered down

cheers gong

I have been looking around the toowoomba area for someone to do my car. Out of the 15 panel and paint shops that i called only 2 were interested. what i am after is taken back to bare metal, all rust cut out and weld in new pieces in usual places for a uc hatch, flare kit put on and paint (i also want to change the color). Out of the 2 that came to look at the car there was only one that i would take my car to and that is going to cost me $25k and wont be finished until the end of the year.

I have thought of doing it myself but since i rent a unit with no place to work on cars and no tools to do so, It would cost me about $15k to do the job myself when calculating in rent of shed and purchasing equipment such as compressors etc. not to mention the electricity cost and the fact that i have never picked up a welder in my life so would hace to pay for someone to do that anyway.

So to have piece of mind that the car is being done to show room condition I am willing to pay the extra

Have you ever considered joining the Darling Downs Veteran & Vintage Motor Club?
For $50 a year members have access to their workshop facilities with spray booth, welders, hoist etc.
