Hi guys,
My LC is almost ready to race but im trying to sort out some wheels for burnouts/powercruise type shenanegans.
My diff is shortened to take 3 3/8" backspace wheels (HQ stud pattern, 1/2" ARP studs) so a regular stocky (HQ or commodore) doesn't bolt up due to offset. I was thinking about getting some commodore wheels modified to change the offset but at the end of the day they're still the slightly wrong PCD and the hub's too small. It sounds like alot of work and expensive just to pull some skids.
I did some poking around in the states and came across what I think is perfect.

They're 4by rock climber wheels. They're the exact backspace that I need, they're steel (gotta be atleast as sturdy as a normal stockie), the hub size is the same as my convo pros - both are non hub-centric wheels. And they actually look like they'd suit a muscle car better than a ugly commodore wheel anyway..
Look at the price, they're dirt cheap! Postage is expensive from the USA but I've found out there is a local distributor so if I can get them for under $100 a rim over here surely its cheaper and easier than mucking around with getting second hand wheels modified?
The only thing I'm wondering is why I havent noticed anyone running anything like this.. Have I missed something? It seems like an nice easy solution to my problem, but I'm wondering if I've overlooked something?? If you guys can't see anything wrong I'll call up my local distributor and see what I can get them for.
Or is there another option I've overlooked? I don't want to know about spacers, I've seen too many people chuck wheels off etc.
Cheers
Marty

they are popular with the drift scene in aus, dirt cheap and good offset. go for it i say! Maybe do some searching on jdm or drift forums for cheap local suppliers. You can get them in 15x8 15x10 and 16x8 and 16x10 from memory.

I'm surprised standard HQ 5.5" or 6" wheels don't fit as they would have somewhere around 3 3/8" backspace, they must come very close? Maybe just a narrower tyre so they don't hang over the side so much?
Its a Ford offset most commonly but you might find something with that wider offset in HQ/Chev pattern
