Hi just about to throw the 253 engine into the LH. It came with a Bosch MEC 717 coil. The coil has 2 flat pins and 1 round pin and the dizzy has 2 wires but 3 connectors on it. Where do these go and what engine loom wires attach to the coil?
Thanks, hopefully pics are attached.

G'Day,

Pink wire goes to positve (+) coil, Green goes to Negative (-) coil, your wire from your ignition switch also goes to positive (to turn the coil off and on with the key).

It is important to ensure you have 12V at the positive terminal of the coil (with key on). If your car has always had points it will be still fitted with a resistor wire, which will cut the volts to approx 9V, if this is the case the electronic system you are fitting will not work right.

The best way around the resistor wire is to cut it near the ignition switch and disconnect it at the coil and run a new wire.

Hope this helps,

GW

PS - You will have to put new ends on the distributor loom to use that coil.

Thanks Gareth,
I'm a bit of a gumby with wiring and diagrams but do you mean i need to run a new wire from the fuse box under the dash near the steering column into the engine bay, past the loom connector and straight to the + side of coil?
Also why are there three ends coming from the dizzy?

cheers

Yes. See: http://www.gmh-toran...-elec-ignition/
The original loom should have a yellow wire that goes to the +ve of the coil, that is still needed.

Hard to see what we are looking at in your photo., it looks like there is a male distributor connector there.
The bullet connector looks to be what was connected to a tacho, is this a bosch dizzy?

Thanks Torbirdie, Yeah Holden Bosch dizzy, from what i have seen in other threads maybe early commodore??
It came with the engine that was out of a 73 HQ.

So just to make sure i've got this right;

* positive side of coil - original yellow wire attached from engine loom.
The new wire I run from pink wire in fusebox under dash.
Pink wire from dizzy

* negative side - green wire from dizzy and cut off the extra end?
Brown wire from engine bay loom

cheers

Brown wire from engine bay loom

do you have a tacho? if not dont connect the brown wire, there's no point - it may be another wire put in there to trap the unwary.
