Hey guys, iv reluctantly purchased a trimatic (i wanted to use a manual, but havnt the time or cash for the conversion involved), and wondering what hp it can take?? This is like asking how long is a piece of string, but i have heard when beefed up they can have 450hp put through them. Has anyone heard of anymore hp put through these things??
I am considering beefing up mine but if it cant cop 700odd hp i wont bother.
The reason for using a trimatic is because of the removable bell housing, enabling the use of a modified bell housing from a Nissan V8.
I suppose it would be similar concept to trimatic with RB30 bell housing.

they have been known to handel up to 600hp from rb30 turbos but due to the fact that the power comes on slowly because its a turbo/ top end dragcar, they are usually easier on the trans then a street/ strip v8 with plenty of balls down low, its the usually the initial shock wich kills the trans.

hmmm
maybe ill leave it internally stock but adapt it to the Nissam V8 for the time being.
Later get the manual gb with twin plate clutch etc.
I suppose i need the easiest quickest, cheapest solution for now (if there is such a thing lol) as a manual gb will cost a shit load, twin plate clutch $2000+ custom flywheel $1000+ Supra gb W58?? $1000, a stronger manual gb more $$$
It wouldnt see the strip regularly, probably see a circuit run more often, most of all be driven on the street.

Call Hugo at RaceGlides and talk to him about what you want. My manualised trimatic which he did is, as you say, rated to 450Hp, but there will be better gear and that sort of stuff he can put in it to be stronger. Cost might be prohibitive to you tho, 700HP is a heap of power, don't know whether they will take that much.

Peace,

Bottledup told me of a friend of his trimatics running a 10.40 in a nitrous fed 355 VC commodore. Dunno how much standard bits are left in it though

something to think about. thanks guys
Im in sydney by the way, so Hugo's may not be a good option as theyre in Vic.
Ill give one of the gb guys a call in Sydney and see what they say on how much hp they can handle and go from there, i figured 450hp would be maximum but hoping someone could tell me off the top of there head more hp would be achievable through one of these box's, 700hp is probably asking a bit too much for one of these box's I imagine.
Anyhow if anybody knows off the top of there head if 700 is achievable please let me know, mean while ill find out from some gb perfomance shop in sydney.

would be keen if you pm'd some of the details on your nissan v8, as i'm in the process of a nissan v8 into lx... for the time being i plan on using the standard nissan v8 box and a 9" and getting tailshaft made up to fit between.

cheers,
baz.

if you need a box to take 700 hp, I would be looking at a glide or TH400

This bloke in NZ is using a VH41 with a Supra gb W57, custom VH41 bell housing, basically chopped the end off the VH41 bell housing and used a 7071 aluminium plate with W57 bolt pattern, welded in the plate on the VH bell housing wam bam gb bolt on sweet, he made the flywheel and used a W57 clutch.
This is what i want to do eventually when funds permitt.

AGI over here in perth makes a custom flywheel allowing you to use a Z32 bellhousing onto a z32 or rb25 gearbox for a manual conversion. This is what i was planning on doing, but at the moment i plan on using the auto from the front cut to just get the project rolling and maybe do conversion later.

Read that forum a few times quite interesting what they can get from these engines in atmo form...

Dunno actually its a workshop a mate of a mates dad owns, specialises in 4wd and offroad stuff. Conversion was made for Patrols and stuff like that, but would be perfectly suited for us. Guy that imported my front cut for me recommends them, if you want i'll see if i can dig up some more info.
