I had some after market steering wheel on when i purchased the gherkin and have now got a ridgy wheel and bought a rare spares horn button. The question is, does the black wire hanging out suppose to conect to the back of the alloy centre badge. i cant see any other place to put it. If anybody has a diagram of how to put a new complete button setup on it would be much appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this querie.

Thats correct!...when you push on the horn pad it completes the circuit and the horn sounds...should have a male spade terminal there for the female wire connector!

:blink2:

The black wire , which is connected to the indicator assy wiring connector should have a bronze pin approx 7/8" long, a spring and a black plastic retainer on the end. This bronze pin installs into the tubular protrusion in the steering column upper bearing/indicator switch housing and contacts the horn ring that attaches to the underside of the steering wheel boss.

Not the best view of the LC switch assy but you can see where the black wire goes.

Assuming the Rares repro LC GTR horn button/cap is the same as the genuine item, the back of the cap should have two adjustable fully threaded pins with lock nuts. These pins make contact with the two male spade contacts in the horn ring when you push on the horn button.

Ahhh, think I've got your problem now. The aftermarket steering wheel had a black wire that connected to the spade on the horn ring, came up through a hole in the boss and connected to a spade on the back of the horn button.

If this is the wire you're talking about then pull it off, you don't want it there.
This is again assuming the Rares repro LC GTR horn button/cap is the same as the genuine.
