hi fellas have finally decided to go with the acrylic lacquer top coat and give the iso free stuff a miss
have applied the epotec 408 and then the iso free 2k hi build as the foundation for the acrylic top coat
just wondering what you fellas spray with (tip size) i have always used a 1.8 mm or a 2.0 mm tip
with out issue but have acquired a 1.4 mm hvlp suction fed gun (brand new ) so i was hoping to use it just wondering if it is ok to use for the acrylic top coat

any reason for giving the iso free top coat clear a miss ?. i can tell you its great stuff & give a very nice finish . i used acrylic base [ colour ] & put the iso free clear over that . it came out bloody nice . i have a photo - i will see if i can download it maybe . i have used the 1.4 tip gravity feed guns for acrylic - no problems .

this is the fc holden bonnet after 3 coats of iso free clear . not yet buffed - straight off the gun - the day after i painted it . it came up very nice once i cut it back with 3000 wet/dry & buffed it with 3m cut paste.

As a non painter,I have a question.
Wont the 2k clear over acrylic prevent the solvents in the acrylic from evaporating and eventually cause delamination or peeling of the topcoat?
Acrylic breaths and shrinks for months.

Most likely Craig.
To the OP, i usually use 1.8 grav or 2 suc for acrylic lacquer.

yes that is what i was thinking it takes along time for the solvents to escape , i wasnt going to use clear anyway i was just going to use a solid colour althought i have been told by other guys they spray the iso free clear over acrylic lacquer and have not had any problems even after 5 to 10 years . but i did a bit of research on the iso free top coats and come to the conclusion that its probably
not any better than acrylic lacquer from what i had been told ,,,,,,,nothing wrong with acrylic if you have the time and give it plenty of time to gas off

ive never had a issue with using iso clear over acrylic . people must be doing things wrong if they have problems - bad prep most likely .i like acrylic as i can get away with spraying it in my back shed . where as the 2k im likely to get complaints . so i will be using acrylic myself while i have nieghbors . lol . my torana will be all acrylic from etch to clear coat . .
