Just got a Muncie 4 speed which will be going in my car over the next couple of weeks. Wanted to hear what people have done to combat the issue of no reverse switch.

I had no idea these didn't have them so this is a bit of a surprise. I thought it was going to be a pretty simple changeover from the Saginaw to the Muncie but doesn't look that way.

Also have to modify the shifter bracket moving the bottom front hole lower and to the rear more not to mention making the whole bracket shorter by about 25-30mm. The main case on the Muncie is about 30mm longer than the Saginaw unfortunately.

The bracket shouldn't be too much of a problem but would like to hear some comments on the reverse switch, that would be a big help.

Perhaps just fit a manual switch under the dash?

Greg Thackray has sourced a setup the same as used on HQ 1837 and XW8 manual cars. 0408 674444. These cars had a Hurst shifter on a Muncie M20.

Cheers Rodney for that. Will this switch hook up to a Hurst Indy shifter?

Thanks all for your comments.

Hey Rodney just got to thinking. Is this switch hooked up to the shifter or somehow fixed to the side of the box?

hi wayno, the switch fits to the rear of the shifter at the bottom and when you select reverse the reverse lever on the shifter depresses the switch,
the summit listing say's it will fit competition plus shifter, which mine is and also super shifter 3 and master shift so not sure on the indy shifter,
the switch works opposite to a brake light switch, so if you find a switch like that it should be quite easy to set something up,cheers rodney

So are you saying that when the switch is in its off and when the switch is out its on, seems like an odd way for a switch to work. I might get something like this and just mount it to the gearbox using a longer linkage arm on the reverse gear.

I am going to mount a switch on the gearbox with a longer reverse lever arm and a mounting bracket. With my shifter I figure its the easiest way. It looks like I need something like the brake light switch in the torana's, something that when the switch is in the out position its actually turning the reverse lights on and when the switch is pushed in it turns the reverse light off. Anyone know of a part number for a switch the same as this would make thing a lot easier for me.

Cheers Wayno
